New Logitech Gaming Software 7.0

For the last year, we’ve been busy behind the scenes developing a completely new software interface for our G-Series gaming keyboards.  The Logitech Gaming Software 7.0 is the culmination of that work.

The new software can upgrade all previous versions of the GamePanel software while keeping all your existing profiles and settings. Once installed, it automatically recognizes which G-Series keyboard (or gameboard) you have attached to your computer and enables you to quickly toggle between connected devices and access all the device’s features from one interface.

The navigation buttons along the bottom of the screen show all the configuration options for the selected device – so, for example, on the G13 you can choose to program G-keys, configure applet display on the GamePanel LCD screen, or change backlighting color.

To assign commands to the programmable G-keys, you just drag them from the left hand side of the screen and drop them on the G-key you want to assign them to. You can assign single keystrokes, multi-key macros, blocks of text, or shortcuts to launch programs. We include profiles for over 190 different games, and if your game isn’t on our list yet you can easily create one.

The interface is designed to be straightforward and clean, giving you quick access to most commonly-used features. There are also right-click menus for most controls that reveal additional configuration options.  For example, if you’re an advanced user you can right-click on the profile icon and choose “Scripting” to use the included LUA editor to create intricate scripts that give much more control over the way the keyboard behaves.

To select applets you’d like to display on your LCD screen, just check which ones you’d like to see. If the applet has configurable settings, you can right click it to change those. And you can choose whether you want the Application Button next to the LCD to immediately switch to the next applet, or to display a list of all running applets.

For the G13, G19, G110, and G510 you can also change the color of the backlighting to suit your preference.  Each M-key mode can have a different backlighting color, so you can tell at a glance what mode you’re in.

Logitech Gaming Software 7.0 supports the G11, G110, G13, both versions of the G15, G510, and G19 gaming keyboards.  Give it a try and let us know what you think in the forums.

Update 1-Feb-2011:

We’ve received a significant amount of feedback on this software and are working hard on investigating root causes and eventually providing an updated, improved version.  There is no timetable for this update.  If you find that the 7.0 software is not meeting your needs, the 3.06 version is still available for download in 32-bit and  64-bit forms.

  • Dear Chris.

Currently I am using Gaming Software 7.00 with G15 and G13 for one day and this is what I think about it so far.

    - Command name display in G Key is so short, can not tell at a glance what it is, I have to hover my mouse over it.
    - Selected profile only shown in icon, additional text display would be better.
    - How can I save profiles to onboard memory? I can not find any button nor explanation in help file to do so.
    - At home I’m using Extreme 3D Pro with Gaming Software 5.10. Are these two gaming softwares completely different or can I safely use Extreme 3D Pro with Gaming Software 7.00.?

    Thanks.

    • Hi Yudha Kusuma,

Thanks for your comments on command and profile display text – I’ll make sure the team sees them for future improvements. Currently it is not possible to access onboard memory with the new version of the software. If this is a feature you require, you will need to reinstall and use the 3.06 GamePanel software, which is available for download from the same page as the 7.0 software. The Extreme 3D Pro is not supported by the 7.0 software, but the two can run together on the same machine.

      -Chris

  • I have downloaded it and installed rebooted it and it looks the same lmao the program says it all up to date =/

    • Hi ross,

The new software is very visually different from GamePanel software. If you have uninstalled the existing GamePanel software and installed the 7.00 version of Logitech Gaming Software, there should be no way that you’re still seeing GamePanel software. If you need more assistance, please contact Support using the link at the top of the page.

  • Hey Logitech, thanks for the update, I’m definitely going to try it when I get home, it looks great. Just one small question? Do you guys plan on adding G9x mouse support to this application any time soon? The software for the G9x is seriously lacking, and if it were to use the same software as the G19 keyboard for it’s color changing, macro editing etc, it would most definitely add new life to the product. Either way, I’m a big fan of your existing products, so keep it up

    • Hi Gareth,

Thanks for your feedback! At this point we’ve only worked on updating our keyboard software, but many people have asked us for something like what you’re suggesting. We’re always looking to improve our customers’ experience of our products, though, so we’ll see what happens in the future.

      -Chris

  • Great program interface! I fully applaud your developers for making something so slick and smooth and so easy to control. I just have a couple of suggestions. First, options for individual applications should stay in the same window, or atleast have the same aesthetic feel of the application. It’s only slightly strange, so it’s not too bad

Here’s the major feature that I would love Logitech forever and a day if they implemented. Please bring the G35 headphone application and Setpoint into GamePanel. It’s a great interface, it’s beautiful and it makes customization so easy. Even the last version was great. Set point lacks in it’s ease of use and customizability, as does the G35 panel (Just the macros bit). Bring them all in the same application, make them all as extensible as the G19 and you would breathe new life into old, yet great, products

  • I’m using this software with my G15. But i can’t switch the Apps with the App button. Only Listing works for me. An i hope there will be a function that the programs can’t set on top by themselves.
The Interface is really nice. Great works. Thanks for that.

    • Hi chr1s,

We’re looking into the app switching issue – a few people have reported this and we’re currently trying to reproduce it consistently so we can correct it.

      -Chris

  • I was reading above where you commented that this program does not currently support the G9x mouse.

As I user of a Logitech G110, the G930 headset, G9x mouse, and the Cordless Rumblepad 2, I would absolutely love to see these all capable of being managed from within one program.

Right now, I have four Logitech devices and I have to use four programs to fully utilize them, it seems a little bit extreme, especially considering that these are all “gaming” peripherals and that the gaming crowd wants as little system resource usage as possible.

This is not a complaint, just another suggestion to make the Gaming Software recognize more devices, so we don’t have to have 1 program for every Logitech device we own.

    • Hi Charles,

This is a request that many of our customers have made in the past, and it’s something we continue to evaluate. The issue of system resources is something we take very seriously during development, and we have to ensure that changes we make to our software to improve the experience of people who have multiple Logitech products don’t negatively affect people who don’t have multiple Logitech products. Ultimately, though, it’s comments and requests like yours that have the greatest impact on our product development. So thanks for your input! We’ll see what happens in the future. :)

      -Chris

  • I love the G13 I have, the only problem I have ever really had was that I can’t organize or rearrange the order of the game profiles. They seem to be in a random order. Is there any way to fix this?

    • Hi Karl,

This is not currently possible, but it’s something I’m having the team look at for a future revision of this software. As this is the first version of a new software platform, we’re closely monitoring all feedback and trying to ensure that we deliver the best experience we can.

      -Chris

  • Hey, just tried it with G15, a couple comments:

    1. on Windows XP Pro 32-bit, in Command Editor -> Multi-Key, after recording “mute” or “volume up/down” buttons and press OK, the program crashes:
An unhandled win32 exception occurred in LCore.exe [3752].

    2. I can record (simulated with AutoHotkey) F13~F24 keys and the program can correctly identify them, BUT nothing happens when I press the G-keys programmed to fire F13~F24. The LCD shows they are being pressed but just nothing happens really.
Could you please look into that, I think other people are looking forward to use the F-Keys also, it was brought up in the forum several times with previous LCD script (it didn’t work back then). Should be something very simple I assume and it works just fine with G9/x + Setpoint II.

    Thanks!!!

    • Hi David,

Thanks for your feedback – I’ll forward it to the development team. I don’t have an answer for you on F13-F24 support, but I don’t immediately see a reason why they can’t be added in the future.

      -Chris

  • Hello Logitech,

the new software is not as good as I thought at first.
The management of the applet is too simple to me. Unfortunately, the LCD RSS reader is no longer displayed, and I find no way to make the reader see them again. He just disappeared.
It would be nice to offer if the new software for both beginners and advanced, experienced users would be possibilities. I want more options for experienced users.

    Simpler is not always better!

  • As much as i love the new interface and layout it really is missing too many feature and has too many issues for me to use yet so I have downgraded to the older software for now.

My problems with my G19 were that most the time I could not use the application button to quick switch between apps when on that setting and had to depend on going through the menu to do that. Also since there is no longer an option to prevent apps from switching to the foreground I would often find that after switching songs in Winamp with the media keys a few seconds later some other app previously in the background would pop up to the foreground for no real reason like the performance monitor, curse client or even media player classic’s app (that no longer closes when the program is closed anymore).

So all in all I love the development direction but it needs a bit more bug fixing before its ready for daily use.

  • I just tried upgrading to this new software and I’d have to say it has not been very successful. After reading the previous comments, I find it really annoying that this “upgrade” actually leaves out features that 3.06 had, mainly access to the onboard storage (which used to be a selling point on the G13). This has become an even more frustrating point because when I upgraded the firs time, none of my profiles transferred because they are on the onboard memory. After downgrading back to 3.06 and moving the profiles off of the G13 to the computer and then re-upgrading, my profiles are still missing.

I read in this post that the upgrade should preserve all profiles and settings, but my experience shows me it does neither. I find this really weird that y’all would spend so much time improving the look & feel of the program (which I do like), but then remove functionality. Hopefully the next version will revert back to supporting the functionality y’alls devices are capable of.

    • Hi Craig,

We absolutely agree that the onboard profile management functionality should be present in LGS 7.0, and it is at the top of the list to be added to the next revision of the software. I’m not sure why your profiles are not following the upgrade even after being pulled on to the PC, but I’ll have that checked out and if it’s a bug we’ll get it fixed.

      -Chris

  • I am using the orange G15 keyboard and notice two issues.

    1. The App Display switch button does not work in the new software. It only works when you set the software to “List of Running Apps” vs. “Switch to Next Applet”.

    2. The software causes Vista to play the device connect sound when the Game Panel software loads on boot.

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

Other than the bugs this is a awesome redesign! I love the interface and integration.

Any thoughts on the bugs Chris?

    • Hi Jason,

Your first comment is a known issue with 64-bit Windows 7, and it will be corrected in a future version of the software. The second I’m not sure on, but I’ll pass it on to the development team.

      -Chris

  • I’m using the 1st Gen (Blue) G15 keyboard, and as nice as the new software is, there’s a rather annoying bug:

If I create a multi-key macro that has any sort of mouse clicking involved don’t get re-loaded properly after the process is terminated (ie: I shut down my computer).
Any mouse-button-up entries were changed to mouse-button-down and moved to the top of a macro.

Basically any macro involving a click got buggered every time the process closed.

    • Hi Mathias,

Thanks for the feedback – I’ve forwarded it to the engineering team for review.

      -Chris

  • Hi,
The G13 will not swap profiles using the new software.
New install of Win 7 Ult x64, AMD Phenom II x6, 8 GB RAM, Asrock 880G Exteme, Radeon 6950.
All of the profiles point to the correct locations and I have tried using the Game Panel Display button with the same result.
Running X-Fi Volume control, Avast 5, Tuneup Utilities 2011, Catalyst CC.
On the old software it would only autoload if you saved the profile, then deleted it then loaded the saved version; but this no longer works.

    • Hi Mike,

I’ve forwarded this information to the development team and it is being investigated.

      -Chris

  • since ive downloaded the 7.0 software, i haven’t found anything i like.

i play wow and i cant even set the keyboard(g15) to not always show wow when its available, i like to play my game and see what music is playing.

also it laggs terrible and it does so much unnecessary things,

im going back to the old software as i liked it alot better than the new one.

  • I own the G13, G15 and G11. The functionality offered by the LUA scripting has changed the way I use my computer and play games.

Alas, the new software did not import any of my scripts!
All of my profiles rely heavily on customized scripts. It’d be nice if I didn’t have to manually update each and every profile individually.

Also, in the new software, the script is automatically active for every G key. Is this intentional? Is this likely to change? In the old software, I had to assign the script to each G key. Now I have to rewrite my scripts to account for every G key always triggering the script.

Is there a way to display key presses on the LCD screen without rewriting scripts? There was a tick box with this option in the old software.

This new software makes customizing the advanced features of these controllers so much more difficult.

    -G

  • I just bought the Logitech G510 (upgrading from G15 Gen. 1 because my keys wore off)

I have to say I love this keyboard, the feel, styling and layout are great! I do have a few issues with the keyboard though. First, I have the issue already stated a few times here where the App switch button only works when set on List apps. Second, I had an issue where I could only control music in iTunes when the program was open. I fixed this by adding the mmKeys.dll file to the plug-in folder in iTunes.
On to my third problem (most annoying) which is the Logitech Media Display applet doesn’t turn on at all. I go into the Gaming Software and go under Customize LCD Display. Under Applets I have the program checked and everything is checked when you click customize for the app. But I don’t even see the app listed when I click the app button on the keyboard, and the app doesn’t start when I bring up iTunes or WMP. Any suggestions?

    • Hi Jason,

I don’t have any specific suggestions for you – the Media Display applet should run automatically. I would suggest contacting Support or discussing with other end-users on the forums.

      -Chris

  • All in all i love the new software but imo there are minor flaws when its working with the g13 gamepad it terminates my apps for the display at random and just shuts off every 10 mins. in World of warcraft but other then that i love it and gaming wil never bee the same without especially after the new features

  • Hi Chris,
I just got my G110 and I was wondering because I also got a G9X gaming mouse with it and I was wondering if it would be possilbe if they can run off the same software.

    Kieran

    • Hi Kieran,

The G110 and G9x cannot use the same software. This is a feature many users have requested, however, so we are absolutely considering such functionality for future products.

      -Chris

  • Hey guys,

how are you getting on with that app switching issue? Is there going to be an update soon?

    cheers

    • Hi Lurk,

There is no timetable for an update. There are a number of items that are in the queue for correction on this software, and we’re trying to get as many as possible into the next release. You can keep appraised of the update situation by monitoring the forums – we’ll announce any new versions there first.

      -Chris

  • I’ve tried upgrading to the new software, but it won’t run. I have installed/uninstalled/reboot/installed/etc. without improving things.

A little digging in the event viewer turned up this information on the Windows Error that is being thrown every time I try to start the software:

Faulting application name: LCore.exe, version: 1.0.57.0, time stamp: 0x4ce2f342
Faulting module name: QtCore4.dll, version: 4.6.2.0, time stamp: 0x4be08cb1

    Report Id: c65bb800-224e-11e0-be20-001fbc07aee1

    Hope this helps…

It’s back to the old software for me… hope my profiles haven’t gotten lost in the process.

    • Hi Sam,

Thanks for the error log. I’ve passed it on to our engineers and they’ll be reviewing it for the next version.

      -Chris

  • I can confirm those 2 glitches under Windows 7 Professional 64bit and an ASUS P8P67 mainboard with my G15 refresh (orange LEDs).
The app display switch stops working after a while and every time I boot I get the USB-device connected sound.

Other than that I’m liking the redesign.

    • Hi Ajry,

The issues you’re experiencing have been forwarded to the engineering team and will be reviewed and addressed for a future revision.

      -Chris

  • Hi Logitech,

I recently download the new software to work with my g15 keyboard, however I am unable to add additional gamer profiles created for previos versions. I used to be able to locate the profile and add, however I seem to only be able to create new ones.

    regards.

  • I have a logitech g19 on windows 7 64-bit and i downloaded the new gaming software and when i open up the menu it says “No Device Detected , Please ensure your device is supported, and firmly attatched to the USB Port” when it is indeed pluged in and i am typing with it right now please help

    • Hi John,

What you’re describing will require a bit more discussion than is possible on this blog. Please contact Support using the link at the top of the page – they will be able to provide far more assistance than I can.

      -Chris

  • @Jason

I also have all the bugs listen by Jason, even the second bug (although the second bug also appears in the previous version)

  • Chris, first I just wanted to say it’s nice to talk directly to those working with the new Logitech Gaming Software. Overall, it’s much easier to use and navigate, but there are some crippling issues I’ve seen. These show-stopping issues are making me uninstall your new version and go back to a previous version with separate LCD and macro apps.

My system: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit RTM with a G19 keyboard and latest Logitech Gaming software version.

1.) Being able to toggle through G19 LCD applets with one press of the app button never seems to work for me. I have to set it to pull up the list to change apps. In other words, pressing the app button when it’s set to toggle never does anything. Grrr.

2.) Right clicking on a G19 LCD applet and choosing “configure” doesn’t work. GRRRRR! Extremely important since I use many third-party applets.

3.) The icons for each macro profile shows the executable icon. Some game developers use generic icons for their actual executable client, while using their game logo for the launcher. Let us change the icon, PLEASE! Worse, the profile names don’t show until I hover over it with the mouse, and there’s no way to enable them to show all the time.

4.) I can’t use multiple executables for one profile. The Logitech Setpoint software for my G9x lets me set multiple executables for one profile. This is VERY important for games with a separate launcher executable. Sometimes I load the launcher and sometimes I load the client directly (to skip checks for updates, etc.).

5.) I can’t use the same executable name for different profiles, even if the executables are in different directories. UGGG!

6.) I can’t get the default “white” color anymore for different macro sets. I can get a blue-like white or a purple/pink-like white, but no near-true white with the new software. I’ve tried every subtle combination.

Please fix these items. I enjoy the all-in-one look of the new app, but its functionality is exponentially worse than previous versions. People buy gaming peripherals to get additional control and tweaking functionality, not to ‘look pretty’ on their desk. GRRR!

    • Hi cipher_nemo,

We’re well aware of all the issues you’re describing and are working to get an update out that corrects them. There is no timetable for this update. If the current software is not meeting your needs, I recommend using the legacy 3.06 software instead. It is still available for download in 32-bit and 64-bit forms.

  • Hello,

I tested it briefly before going back, until the next version. I could not find a “macro editor” or a similar function (but tested briefly so I might be wrong). It’s important to have that, to get a clear overview when you have many commands. Easier to edit, change, remove, label and add. To be able to edit and label them correctly, in relation to other labels and functions. It’s too much back and forth when you can only edit and see one button/script at a time.

  • One more thing: Even though the new layout is way prettier, it’s also larger, and to some extent harder to “see” at a glance (labels abbreviated, more flashy stuff). I often have the Profiler window open on my 2nd monitor in order to quickly see what buttons do what (with a G13/G19 combo, that’s lots of buttons). At least until I know them by heart. But there’s also loads of other stuff that needs my attention on the 2nd monitor (charts, maps, IM software, browser…), so please keep it clean and slim. A resizeable window perhaps, or better yet: the older overviews, optionally available. They’re clear, precise, and easy to see at a glance. They show only what you need to see while gaming.

  • Dear Logitech,

Thank you for this fantastic update, I am very pleased with the new software.

However I am confused about 2 things.

    1. Is this also the driver for the keyboard? Because my device manager in XP told me it’s an HID Keyboard Device instead of showing me “Logitech G19 Keyboard”

    2. The main menu for the LCD is all a lot smaller which is good, but the highlighted text is unreadable. I don’t know if it is just me, but the highlight is this bright white that covers the text, because the text is also white. Now all I can see on an highlighted item is the icon.

Thanks for your time reading, please answer when you’re free.

    • Hi Hiroshi,

The keyboard component of the G19 uses the standard Windows HID keyboard driver. There is no custom keyboard driver, so what you see in Device Manager is correct. The text size on the color LCD is being reviewed for a potential change in a future revision of the software.

      -Chris

  • Chris, thank you so much for the reply and letting us know you’ve got the issues I’ve mentioned on your to-do list. It’s great to hear from people working closely with the Logitech Gaming Software. Have a good one. :-)

  • Whenever the program is restarted, all the mouse click macros are changed. Click up is removed, and all the click downs are moved to the top of the macro…. very very annoying to reset everytime I need to use….

    • Hi Peter,

This is an issue our engineers are aware of and it will be addressed in a future version of the software. There is no timetable for that update at this time. If this is a feature that is critical for you, I recommend using the 3.06 software instead.

      -Chris

  • When will the “next applet” button work again? it is pretty annoying that one of the basic features isn’t working at the moment at Windows 7.

    • Hi MsG,

There is no timetable for an update to LGS 7.0 at this time. If this is a feature that is critical for you, I recommend using the 3.06 software instead.

      -Chris
