Logitech Revue Gets an Update

When we launched Logitech Revue with Google TV, we promised we’d take advantage of the open nature of the platform to enhance the experience on a regular basis. Today we released an update that certainly lives up to that promise.

You said you wanted to be able to update your Netflix queue and find movies and TV shows within the Netflix app. And we’re excited to say, as soon as you accept the update, you can.

You said that Dual View was a great feature, but you wanted it to do more. Now, Dual View allows you to move and resize it so whether you want live TV large or small, you’ve got it.

And we’ve added stuff you didn’t know you wanted! Now when you are searching for a movie, Google TV has a landing page that shows you all films associated with the title so you can quickly watch it wherever it’s available on your TV, the web or within an app — from sources like TV channels, Netflix, and Amazon Video on Demand. You can even click on the name of a cast member and we’ll take you to a new search landing page where you’ll see other movies that you can watch with that actor. It’s a cool way to discover movies.

Of course, as with every update, we took the opportunity to tweak features, address bugs and improve the overall experience in ways you may – or may not – notice. We’ve posted a more complete list of the updates on the support forums and we’re already planning for what’s in the next update.

  • The “complete list of the updates” link above sends me to the “Revue Product Updates & Release Information” support forum, with nothing I could find about this update.
Could you please change that to a direct link to the list of updates?

    Thanks.

    • Hi Guillaume,

Thank you for your comment. We have updated the link above to go directly the a list of the updates.

  • How do I got about getting the update? My Revue is on all the time because apparently it can’t be turned off unless it’s unplugged. Anyway, I just want to know how to download the update. Thank you!

    • Hi Mikey,

It can take a few days for all of the Logitech Revue boxes to check-in and receive the update. We expect all boxes to be updated by this weekend. Please accept the update when you are prompted.

  • PLEEEEEEEEEASE fix the audio issue with the Revue. I have a 5.1 receiver, but I only get 2.1 sound. PLEEEEEEEEEASE fix.

    • Revue is capable of outputting the following audio formats depending on how Revue is connected to your AV Receiver. If you have Revue connected as follows:
      HDMI HDMI
      Set-top Box ——–> Revue ——–> AVR

Revue will output 2.1, 5.1/7.1 PCM depending on the audio output signal of the set-top box.

If you have Revue connected as follows:
      HDMI SPDIF
      Set-top Box ———> Revue ———> AVR

Revue will output Dolby Digital 5.1 or PCM 2.1 depending the audio output signal the set-top box. When using SPDIF to connect Revue to your AVR, you also have the option to select whether Revue will output the signal in PCM or Dolby Digital. You can change the Optical sound setting by following the steps below:

      1. From the Google TV Home screen, go to Applications > Settings.
      2. Select Optical audio output.
      3. Select either PCM or Dolby Digital.
      4. Click OK

      Hope this helps.

  • This is great news. Waiting to see how the Netflix enhancements show up. But it would be nice to see features on netflix similar to how Apple TV has implemented.

  • Thanks for a great product ! Still haven’t received the revue update. Any ideas when will I receive it?

  • I was so happy to get the update–Netflix is much, much better now–but it has broken the DLNA support. I’m apparently not the only person with this problem (see http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Revue-Product-Updates-Release/Revue-amp-Google-TV-Update-Logitech-Media-Player-application/m-p/540522#M69) and I’m a bit distressed that no one seems to be acknowledging the problem or giving us an estimate to when it will be fixed. This is the main reason many people (myself included) bought this device, and now it’s fairly useless to me.

Can you tell us whether anyone is working to fix this issue and when we can expect a fix?

  • You may have gotten the update without knowing it. I didn’t have to accept it, it just showed up. You can check two ways…go to Settings, about and check the firmware version (should be 2.1 – update 1 or something like that).

Easier to just open Netflix app and if it has the new version, you’re golden.

Speaking of the new version…sweet! Much improved usability and look.

  • I am using a synology NAS to stream my MKV formatted videos that work well, albait without menues. Not abig deal. What troubles me is the lack of compatibility with m4a audio format. I have a large collection of songs I purchased from iTunes, no DRM and revue does not play them; though the specifications show we can. What is the problem?

  • Problem: The new Netflix app on Revue does not allow me to select the 5.1 sound option (it’s grayed out and when I select it, it says the device is either not capable of playing 5.1 or it is not configured to do so). My receiver shows Dolby Digital 5.1 and the setting on Revue for Optical Output is “Dolby Digital”.

    My set up is:
STB ——(HDMI)——>Revue ——-(optical cable) —–> AVR

    Thanks for your help,
    -Ramin

  • My Revue is connected to the AVR using the optical cable. The new Netflix app has the 5.1 option, but it is grayed out and when I select it, it tells me that my device is either not configured to do 5.1 or is not capable of doing so. I have selected “Dolby Digital” from the setting menue as you suggested above and the AVR shows “Dolby Digital”, but the sound the coming from speakers is not 5.1 (e.g., the center speaker is silent when netflix plays).

Has anyone else been able to select the 5.1 option from any of the netflix movies? There are only selected movies on netflix streaming that support 5.1. “The Extra Man” is one of them. “Eureka Season 3” is another one.

    Thanks for your help,

    -R

  • Mr Arora,

I have had the Revue since the first week you released it. I love the concept and I understand as an early adopter I get to enjoy the device and lament on the myriads of issues that slipped passed the QA group.

In one of your above posts, you mentioned that the setup: STB –> HDMI –> Revue –> HDMI –> Receiver –> HDMI –> TV will allow you to output in 5.1 or 7.1 depending on the signal coming from the STB is not correct. My STB outputs 5.1/7.1 fine when connected via HDMI to my receiver. However this is not true when it is connected to the Revue. This is not a unique case (Check your own forum: http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Revue/2-1-Channel-Sound-Where-s-5-1-and-7-1/td-p/527078)

I hope you can shed some light on the problem in your blog and give us an ETA on when the problem is getting fixed. I do not want to use SPDIF as this is not the intent of HDMI.

For a company such as Logitech, of which I have numerous products that exhume quality, this one went out prematurely. I hung on to the Revue as I have the confidence in the company and I hope you are working diligently to fix it as it has the potential of being a great product. I also hope that your attention is not fading as I noticed in your blog (last blog on Jan 7).

Please take the last statement as constructive criticism.

  • When will a user get access to add-ons from the Android store? When we bought this system last November, we did with the hopes of eliminating our computer attached to the TV. As of now, we can slap our external hard drive on it and watch movies we have downloaded and we can surf the internet. There are apps pre-installed yes, but when will the user be able to personalize his or her own experience?

    • Hi David,

We can’t make an announcement on the exact dates as it depends on Google. They plan to have the Android app marketplace available in 2011.

  • Ashish,
It seems the reported audio issues are being swept under the rug. Can you please let the community know that you either are or are not aware of this potential problem? If Logitech has no open case for it, then we (speaking on the behalf of others with surround sound issues) would like to find a new product. If Logitech is aware and will admit there is a problem with 5.1/7.1 in some scenarios, then please please please just let us know that it is an open bug that will be looked into.
I can confirm that optical audio from Revue to Panasonic SA-HE100 does not push 5.1 even though the receiver reports a Dolby Digital signal. Bypassing the revue and going from STB to AVR works flawlessly (And sounds much cleaner even if set to stereo on avr). Yes, settings have been quadrouple checked as per your previous post.

Thank you very much in advance.
