As a follow-up to our G11 gaming keyboard, we bring you the Logitech Gaming Keyboard G110. “Dare I call it sexy? It’s sleek, clean, and thin. Logitech has finally made a gaming keyboard that can easily blend into a work environment,” says CrunchGear. The G110 is full of cool personalized features, such as customizable backlighting, which Gearlog enjoys: “I love the customizable backlighting on the G110: you can make it red, blue, or any shade of purple…that’s something I’d love in my regular keyboard.”

Also announced, for all of you stuck on your laptops with sore backs and necks, the Notebook Kit MK605 is here to relieve your discomfort. CrunchGear says, “Logitech has the right idea here.”

Whether you’re setting up a make-shift, laptop workstation at your kitchen table or your office desk with the goal of getting some serious work done or just want a little more comfort when using your laptop on the couch or at the corner cafe, you don’t’ want to be dragged down by discomfort. However, because the primary draw of laptops is their portability, they are designed in a way that can cause strain on your arms, wrists, neck and back.

Logitech has an entire family of laptop accessories designed to enhance your experience, comfort, and productivity no matter what you’re doing or where you’re doing it and today, we’re adding the Logitech Notebook Kit MK605. Combining a pivoting riser with a wireless mouse and keyboard, the Notebook Kit MK605 is our first all-in-one solution to feature our recently announced Unifying technology, providing a convenient and flexible way to make your laptop experience more enjoyable.

Depending on the task at hand, you can pick and choose which components to use:

For more involved tasks you can use all three. Or, when chatting with friends you might just need the keyboard, while when surfing the Web from your favorite coffee shop you’d be more comfortable using your mouse.

The pivoting riser lets you choose from three different angles to bring the screen to the ideal, eye-level height for you and fits laptops up to 15.6 inches.

The wireless keyboard gives you a full-size layout with a number pad in a compact design.

The wireless laser mouse delivers smooth, responsive control and is small enough to go wherever you do.

Also, because it features Logitech Unifying technology, you can leave the receiver plugged into your laptop at all times and can pair it with up to four more compatible mice and keyboards.

If you have a laptop, you’ve likely found yourself browsing the Internet from the couch with the TV on in front of you, responding to e-mail from the kitchen table, or watching a movie while relaxing in bed. I certainly find myself using my laptop throughout the house because it allows me to be around my family as much as possible. Although laptops are great at helping create flexible workspaces, you’ve most likely experienced some discomfort while trying to balance your laptop on your lap or avoid the heat given off by the laptop. To help out in that area, we’ve developed several products that are meant to help beat the heat and add comfort – including the newly announced Portable Lapdesk N315.

Portable Lapdesk N315
If you can’t imagine using your laptop without a mouse, the new Logitech Portable Lapdesk N315 offers a comfortable base, a retractable mouse pad and a thin and light design. The anti-slip top helps keep your notebook (15 inches or smaller) firmly in place, and because we know that accidents can happen, we’ve made the washable surface easy to clean. The Portable Lapdesk N315 will be available in the U.S. and Europe this month for a suggested retail price of $29.99 (U.S.).

Comfort Lapdesk
If you’re looking for a simple way to be more comfortable when using a laptop around the house, the Logitech Comfort Lapdesk has a stable, lightweight design that acts as a heat-shielding barrier. It’s angled for improved neck and leg comfort (when used in a seated position).

Cooling Pad N100
For improved airflow around the laptop, the Logitech Cooling Pad N100 features USB-powered fan that distributes air quietly and evenly. The slotted surface allows for virtually silent airflow and a rear intake design enables for steady, unobstructed airflow.

Like everyone else in the PC industry, we’ve been watching the huge shift toward the notebook platform in the last few years. Whether you use your laptop at a desk or on the sofa, you’ve probably noticed that laptops can lack in the comfort department. To that end, we just announced two new products: the Logitech Cooling Pad N100 and the Logitech Notebook Riser N110.

When using a notebook on your lap, one of the unfortunate realities of Moore’s law is that all that extra processing power generates a lot of heat so keeping a laptop on your lap for more than a few minutes can really get quite uncomfortable. And frankly, the lifetime of the laptop is impacted by all of this heat generated. Our new Cooling Pad N100 is a real breakthrough for a number of reasons, including:

1. It isolates you from the laptop heat
2. It improves air flow around the laptop

I’ve been using this product at home for the last couple of months and I have to say that it has been a real pleasure to use. It cools incredibly effectively yet draws less power from the USB port than any other product currently on the market (that we’ve been able to test). This means that the cooling pad does its job while having little impact on the battery life of the notebook. Another great feature is that the fan does all of this efficient cooling while making almost no noise. In fact, I’ve found myself look closely to make sure that it’s working because it’s so quiet!

When using a laptop in a more fixed environment such as a home office, ergonomically, it’s a huge step back compared to a desktop-computer setup. You’re typically too close to the screen, which is too low relative to your head, creating a hunched effect. If you work for several hours in this position, your body is not going to thank you short term or long term. Our new notebook riser raises the top of the notebook screen to eye level with three adjustable positions and also has a base that swivels. With the Notebook Riser N110, it becomes incredibly easy to connect an external keyboard and mouse for more comfort. As an added bonus, your laptop is better protected from accidental spills.

We designed our two new products to help resolve comfort issues associated with notebooks without sacrificing the convenience offered by notebooks. Both products are also designed to help protect the value of your notebook investment. Let me know if you have any questions about them.

It’s hard to believe that it’s already 2009. Last year went by incredibly quickly and despite the blur of events, there are a few key areas that stick out for me as I look back on the last 12 months.

For the mouse-and-keyboard business, the year kicked off with the launch of our diNovo Mini product at CES. This was our second foray into the living room domain after the launch of MX Air mouse six months prior. The diNovo Mini is a combination typing and pointing device in a very compact form factor, so it’s great for use with media center PCs or for people who hook up a laptop to their TV screen. The device also has built in support for the Sony PS3 (PDF) and connects to both devices via Bluetooth technology. A great innovation on the diNovo Mini is the ClickPad, which functions as a directional pad when in CE mode and as a touchpad when in PC mode.

At that same show, we launched our next-generation high-end Bluetooth desktop, the MX 5500 cordless desktop, which combines a Bluetooth version of our award-winning MX Revolution mouse with a high-performance keyboard. The keyboard has a built-in LCD display, useful for providing quick updates, inbox notifications, etc.

At the outset of the year, it was clear that the notebook platform was going to dominate, so making our products even more notebook friendly became a major initiative for the team. We agreed that there isn’t just one magic feature that makes a product “notebook friendly.” Instead, we focused on developing a number of new features that would make it easier than ever for people to work with their notebooks, while maintaining the comfort and productivity features that people have come to expect from Logitech peripherals.

One of the key challenges in the notebook environment is making it easy and seamless to connect devices such as mice. Our nano-receiver provides a fantastic solution. The receiver is small enough that it stays plugged into the computer so that every time you switch on or open your notebook, the mouse is ready to work. In 2008, we tripled the size of our nano family of mice by launching the V550 Nano (with the clip-and-go dock) and the V450 Nano. Both of these products complement the award-winning VX Nano mouse.

We also upgraded our cordless technology because people often use their notebooks in busy wireless environments such as airports or conference areas. Our new Advanced 2.4 GHz technology is designed to work in the busiest of environments, with a connection as robust as a corded connection but with the convenience and ease we expect from wireless. The technology also offers another major advantage – impressive battery life. In fact, the V550 Nano mouse has a battery life of 18 months and we now offer two keyboards with a battery life of three years (diNovo keyboard for notebooks and the Wave Pro cordless desktop).

With the Wave PRO desktop, we also introduced a mouse that can recharge through the USB port – again, something that is incredibly useful when working with a notebook. And the Wave keyboard has set a new standard in comfort. Speaking of comfort, we also launched the MX1100 Mouse, which is the most comfortable mouse we have ever launched IMHO.

But there’s more…..

As the definition of where people use their computer became fuzzier, we also saw the need to innovate based on these changes. First up was the reality that people run, skip and hop from room to room (or office to office) with their laptops and – thanks to WLANs – remain connected. But often people don’t have enough hands to bring along their favorite notebook peripheral – their mouse! J The nano-receiver resolved the connectivity issue, but not the portability issue, so we introduced the clip-and-go dock with the V550 Nano mouse. The dock allows you to clip the mouse to the top of your notebook when moving from room to room.

We also noticed that more and more people are using their notebooks in the living room on a couch, so to enhance that experience, we recently launched the Comfort Lapdesk – designed to take couch computing to the next level of comfort.

And more…

Again in this fuzzy new world where people always seem to be connected to their computers, we realized that it’s a murky world – or let’s say, a dark world. There are many situations where people are working in their living room in dimly lit conditions – or even complete darkness – to avoid disturbing other family members. Our Illuminated Keyboard truly illuminates your typing experience and is again a great example of the team developing a product that adapts to the environment of the customer.

Finally, we spent a lot of time making things right on the Mac platform this year. We had software issues with previous versions of our control panel (LCC) which could cause kernel panics, so we focused on getting that right. Building on the platform, we launched several new products for the Mac, including optimized versions of the MX Revolution and VX Nano on the mouse side, as well as two new Mac-specific keyboards – the diNovo Edge, Mac Edition and the diNovo Keyboard Mac Edition.

Finally, to cap off the year, we shipped our billionth mouse (wow!) and celebrated the 40th anniversary of the first public demonstration of the mouse! Now it’s time to start prepare for what new developments 2009 will bring. I’ll be sure to keep you posted!
