In the middle of the dot-com bubble in 1999, I joined a new but promising startup in the Washington D.C. area called BroadSoft. As the first non-founder and non-engineer, my job was to put BroadSoft on the map and be part of the leadership team driving UC innovation, including video collaboration.
Fast forward to the present: BroadSoft is probably the biggest player in the UC space you haven’t heard of. BroadSoft is now one of the the global leaders in cloud unified communications and dominates the service provider market. Nearly every major communications service provider worldwide is powered by BroadSoft for their unified communications service offerings. A growing and increasingly important part of these UC offerings is video collaboration.
BroadSoft has been a member of the Logitech Collaboration Program since its inception. Today, I’m very pleased to announce an enhancement to the Logitech-BroadSoft partnership. Our companies have teamed to solve the problems around high quality video collaboration in the meeting room. BroadSoft has spent many years optimizing its UC-One soft client for voice and video conferencing. Now BroadSoft’s new offering, UC-One Conference Room, allows that same quality experience in a group setting of a conference room.
Besides my personal connection to the company, I’m excited about this offering for a number of reasons. First, it solves a big problem of how companies can simply join a call without the complexity of traditional video conferencing systems. The UC-One Conference Room solution is intuitive and supports the holy grail of one click start of meetings. Second, the economics of the BroadSoft and Logitech offering is compelling: at a few thousand dollars (plus or minus) for a complete video conferencing system, the price is in the range of any company and for any size room (not just for board rooms). High-end telepresence systems were never a good fit for the more reasonably priced UC services and this new combination puts all the key pieces in place for a delightful customer experience.
With BroadSoft’s massive service provider penetration and Logitech’s global footprint and easy-to-use ConferenceCams, this is bound to make a market impact. If you have a chance, please check out the UC-One Conference Room solution on the BroadSoft website.
