Share Everyday Moments with Logitech and Skype

We all aim to stay connected to the ones we love, and thanks to Skype™, it’s been easier to do than ever. And the popular software is growing at an incredible rate. For example, more than 115 billion minutes of calls were in the fourth quarter alone – a 58 percent increase from the same period of time the year before! What’s more, more than half of these calls were video calls. Isn’t it time for technology to go a step beyond the computer screen, and allow us to socialize with long distance friends and family in a full-room setting?

Enter Logitech. Today, we announced the Logitech® TV Cam HD, which seamlessly transforms Skype video calls into an experience that can involve the whole family or groups of friends on each end of the call.  The Logitech TV Cam HD works with Skype on any HDTV with an HDMI input, so you’re able to easily share everyday moments with anyone with a Skype account, anywhere in the world. Better yet, you have the freedom to move around the room naturally while connecting with those who matter most, so you’ll feel like you’re in the same room!

No additional software or computer is needed, the built-in Skype application enables you to  use your current Skype account to call existing Skype contacts on their smartphone, laptop, TV or tablet.  Connection to the Internet is via wireless or Ethernet while Logitech Fluid Crystal™ Technology and Carl Zeiss® optics deliver sharp, rich colors in HD 720p resolution video – even in your living room’s low light.

Who do you look forward to video calling on your Logitech TV Cam HD? Let us know in comments!

  • Is this webcam compatibel with older skype certified devices such as Asus Aiguru which use VP& video codecs ?

    • Hi Navneet, the TV Cam is intended to be a product for the living room and specifically a HDTV with HDMI. The product performs best in this environment and is not intended to mount to a computer. Although it can mount, it must have a HDMI port to work.

    • We’re glad you like it! You can expect shipping in September, but please keep checking back with our website for updates. Thanks!

  • Hello! Is it possible to order in advance to buy this wonderful camera the very first?

  • When is the camera going to be avialble for purchase in the USA? So far the website states pre-order only.
I have tested the telyHD product and am really interested in testing this one. Please let me know if the HDMI bypass will function with Sony Bravia Sync with CEC?

  • Will this cam be able to handle / to be connected with two Skype accounts in parallel? As there are normally several people in one houshold, it would be required that not only one person can connect to Skype service at the same time.

    • The TV Cam HD can remember the Skype names of up to 10 users but only one user can be signed in at any one time. Only the user who is currently signed in will receive calls. You can change user names at anytime and assign a ‘remember me’ setting for easy sign-in.

  • I was wondering if the TV Cam HD with Skype will allow you to use the Group Chat feature that is part of the Skype premium plan?

    • Hi Andy, Skype premium is supported. However, there are some limitations to Livingroom calling (things like group video calls, screen sharing etc.). Please visit the Skype website for more information on what is supported by Skype.

  • I just received the “TV Cam HD” (pre-ordered it 39days ago), and after 45min of playing with it I must say that the video and audio quality are great and that I am very happy with the purchase.
But the camera DOESN’T support Skype premium multi user video chat, so I CANNOT remote employees to us in the conference room.

For the family room to family room video chat, this camera is the perfect solution.

    • Hi Zoran. While the TV Cam does support Skype premium, there are some limitations to Living room calling (things like group video calls, screen sharing etc). Please visit the Skype website for more information on what is supported by Skype.

  • Hi – I purchased the TV Cam to be better able to have Skype call with my daughter who lives overseas. It appears to work fine on our end, but for some reason she does not see our video, and we can’t see hers. I’ve tested this successfully with multiple other accounts – as has she – and we still can’t get it working. Any ideas what the issue might be?

    Thanks

  • Howdy! This article could not be written any better!
Looking at this post reminds me of my previous roommate!
He always kept preaching about this. I am going to forward this information to him.
Fairly certain he’s going to have a good read. Thanks for sharing!
