The Perfect Partner for your iPad

Finally have your new iPad? We’ve got you covered. Today we announced a new keyboard accessory for the new, third-generation iPad® and iPad 2: the Logitech® Ultrathin Keyboard Cover.

Extra sleek and thin, the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover is a stylish, aluminum screen cover that protects your iPad screen and features a built-in keyboard that pairs through Bluetooth. It attaches securely to your iPad with a magnetic clip and its built-in stand holds your iPad at the best angle, whether typing or watching a movie. The ultra-slim keyboard cover also has an instant On/Off feature, which automatically wakes up your iPad when you open the cover, and puts it on standby when you close it.

Keyboard function keys offer enhanced navigation, and a piano-black finish adds style. All this and it’s just as thin as your iPad.

Don’t forget, Logitech’s Keyboard Case for iPad 2 and Tablet Keyboard for iPad also work with the third-generation iPad. So, whether you want to boost productivity during the morning commute, or simply add protective style, Logitech has you top of mind.

Check out the video below and let us know in the comments what you think of this new keyboard cover.

  • Unfortunately you aren’t providing the size and weight in the specs tab or in the press release, any details you can provide on that?

  • This looks very nice. But essentially this keyboard is acting like a Smart Cover. I know the Smart Cover will move around on the iPad, and I wonder if this keyboard will as well. I also wonder if this keyboard can be used with an iPad back cover?

    • Hi Ron,

Similar to a Smart Cover, the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover attaches quickly and securely to your iPad via a magnetic clip. It also has the same instant On/Off feature of a Smart Cover, so your iPad automatically wakes up when you open it, and switches to standby when you close it. The Ultrathin Keyboard Cover, however, will not move around on an iPad as you said you experienced using a Smart Cover.

To answer your second question, not all back covers will be compatible with the keyboard. Back covers that will work are any that are compatible with the Apple Smart Cover.

  • Hi Mr. Richard,

The new keyboard case looks great.

I was wondering if the new Keyboard Case will coexist with a snap-on back case that I currently have on my new iPad, both in a closed and “keyboarding” position? I just have the snap-on shell that protects the rear of the ipad from scratches.

    Thank you, and appreciate it.
    Nathan

    • Hi Nathan,

Since I’m not positive what specific back cover design you’re referring to, I can’t 100% guarantee the Ultrathin Keyboard Case is compatible. What I can tell you is that our Keyboard Cover can be used in both closed and “keyboarding” positions with any back covers that are compatible with the Apple Smart Cover.

Thanks for your comment Nathan, we hope this helps!

  • When will this be available for shipment? The website says “Pre-order.”

    Thanks!

    Jeff

  • The keyboard without bluetooth 4.0 is pointless for new iPad. If it comes with it, then probably will have a lot of ppl want to buy it.

    • But the Ultrathin Keyboard Cover does use Bluetooth, that’s how it connects to your iPad!

Once you’ve attached it to your iPad, open the Bluetooth section of the iOS’s Settings app, and tap the Keyboard which will have appeared in your list of devices. You’ll then be prompted to enter (on the keyboard) a four-digit code and press Return. After this one-time pairing process, the Ultrathin Keyboard Cover will automatically reconnect to your iPad whenever both are turned on and in range of each other.

  • This looks awesome. Will it hold the iPad portrait mode? Will the case flip behind the iPad so I can use it like a tablet?

    • Hi Mike,

Glad you like the looks of the the new Ultrathin Keyboard Cover!

To answer your first question, the magnets set into the groove of the Keyboard to hold your iPad firmly in place only attach to the iPad in landscape orientation, left side down. Officially, we don’t recommend using it in portrait mode, however that being said, there is a rubber strip running along the front side of the groove which provides more than enough support to hold your iPad in portrait mode. Check out this review given by MacWorld, http://macw.us/JsKiDu. It goes into detail about using the Keyboard with an iPad in portrait orientation.

To answer your second question, no – the only way to go back to using your iPad as just a tablet is to disconnect it from the Keyboard. This is as simple as pulling the iPad away from the magnetic clip of the cover, or the magnetic groove if it’s in keyboarding position.

We appreciate your comment, hope this helps!

  • as we say here in ireland deadly ,ahh thats mad ,the business , this is as clever as the ipad its self where can i get one or more to the point are they available in ireland for resale to my customers???
    Gary

  • Ready to pre order… But can you tell me if it will hold my iPad in portriat orientation and if the cover will fold around the back of my iPad? Thanks!

    • Hi Mike, the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover supports landscape mode but also works in portrait mode so that you’ll have both options for optimal viewing. It does not fold around the back of the iPad. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any further questions. Thanks!

  • Am I correct that this product does not provide any protection to the back of the iPad? If I am correct, will the cover work with a back shell? Thanks.

  • It looks nice!

Unfotunately, I can’t find any specifications about color variation.
Does it have only black surface and only silver opposite side ?

by the way, I live in Japan, will you release in Japan?
If you will not, can you ship to Japan?

    • Thanks! This product has an aluminum backside that matches the iPad so it looks really sleek, and the keyboard is black with a piano-black finish. We do have plans to launch this product in Japan, and we will be sure to share more on the launch timing once ready.

  • Well, how can I buy this product at off-store in L.A? end of April?
or Should I buy just online store?

    Thanks

  • Okay, it’s April 25th, said one of the guys who pre-ordered already. When it is it going to ship?

    • Hi Clyde,

Glad you’re excited about receiving your new Ultrathin Keyboard Cover! Don’t worry, you will be notified once your product has shipped! If you have not received shipping confirmation by May 1st, please file a customer service report at http://bit.ly/cRKzVw and send us a message with your email address and case number.

Let us know if you have problems and we will get it sorted out ASAP!

  • Look like exactly what I need for my next conference, which starts May 15. Got a few questions, though. Do you know if it will be in the retail stores before then? I ask because I’m keenly interested in the feel and sound of typing. There are number of keyboard where the feel is bad, or the click is way too loud to actually use in a conference room. Logitech keyboards are generally good here (typing this on a K800). I’m reluctant to preorder without getting my fingers on it first for this reason. So any idea when it’ll hit the retail shelves? Any care to comment on the feel and sound of the keyboard compared to the Apple wireless keyboard (MC184LL/B)?

  • Hi Carl, may be you should check out the unit in action based on these two video review first? One is quite extensive on how the keyboard cover works, but another just showing you the over all looks on the Ultrathin Keyboard Cover. I also pre-order mine since this article/blog/product release in mid-April 2012 and anticipating it. :)

  • Hi Logitech,

No worries. Just happen to keeping an eye out on the product and see if any online site has review before the product comes out. Indeed is a high score/positive all around new Logitech creation for the iPad! Can’t wait to receive my pre-order soon! :)

  • Hi, thanks for what looks like a great product. I am ready to preorder, but have a few questions.

First, will the magnetic lock on the stand to hold the iPad upright still work with an iPad with an ultra thin smart cover compatible back cover?

Second, will there be a protective back cover available for the keyboard?

Lastly, I have a white iPad. Is there an option to get a white keyboard, instead of the piano black version? If not, are there plans to make it available in the very near future?

    Thanks for your time, Alex

    • Hello Alex,

Thanks for commenting, we’re excited you want to order the keyboard cover! In response to your first question, if your current back cover is Smart Cover compatible and as “ultra thin” as you say it is, it should work no problem with our Keyboard Cover. In regard to your question, “will there be a protective back cover available for the keyboard?” unfortunately, we cannot comment on unannounced Logitech products. Furthermore, there is currently no white option for the Ultrathin Keyboard Cover and we are unable to comment on the development of one.

      Hope this helps!

  • Got a present of an ipad2 three weeks ago and can honestly say its the biggest piece go junk I have ever used. Unless it is connected to the Internet it really has no main function. It drops all over the place leaving anybody who uses the Internet to post comments ect”, having to rewrite everything all over again. Any kind of long comments must be copied and saved in notes just in case you loose the comment . In reality it’ once again is an American way of advertising whereby the customer pays for that advertising by buying an iPad. This is the second time I had to write this post as one slip on the touch pad and it’s all over. Copy and paste only applies to the page your on, move away from the page and you loose what you copied. In reality it is a mobile shop that uses apps to sell the wares, other than that this pece of junk does nothing more or better than what a standard computer can do. Would I buy an iPad? Not if they were giving them away with boxes of cornflakes. They are not worth the money, they have limited capabilities and are no replacement for a standard keyboard computer.the iPad is a typical example of America where what’s news is wonderful for those with short attention spans. IPad offers nothing more than what is currently on the market. From a commercial point of view it is a money spinner with apps offering all kinds of things once you are prepared to pay for them.
For the consumer the iPad offers a way for one to buy into an online consumer market at the consumers expense. It is like paying to walk into a shop just to browse or posibly purchase, a thing that can be done for free on a standard computer. it does not support many software packages which means you will always have to turn on the everyday computer. It has so many restrictions that one would ask the question ” why such hype for a machine that gives so little”?
The answer can only be found in America where queues build up for something that seen as wonderful but in reality is just average. It’s like the American motor industry that produced vehicles for the American market that nobody outside wants.
Anything good about the iPad? Well it’s compact, loads quickly and is handy if you are not overly concerned about wanting to use it for a purpose less than important.

  • People are reporting on macrumors that they’ve been able to buy the keyboard already at Best Buy.

If pray tell, this is available at my local Best Buy tomorrow, is it possible to cancel my pre-order?

  • Henry, thanks for the videos, they do indeed provide much more information. I’m sold! But now I’m just wondering on the ship date. If I pre-order, can I expect to have it delivered to me (Chicago) by May 14? If not, I’ll not have it in time for my conference, and I might be better off waiting for it at a retail store. Just wondering the best strategy to get it into my hands at the soonest date.

    • Hi Carl,

Pre-orders are expected to ship on May 1st and should arrive within 4-7 business day. If you’re concerned that’s cutting it too close you can pay an additional shipping fee, assuring your purchase will arrive within 2-3 business days.

  • @ Carl
No prob with the four review links provided and the two different video review on the Ultrathin Keyboard Cover from Logitech. Am hoping you will receive your pre-order soon before your May 14th conference in Chicago. I also read from MacRumor that a user is able to buy one from their local Best Buy, but yet I still have to find out and not sure if Canadian Best Buy has the same availability date like in the U.S. with day 1 release. Regardless, I will patiently wait with my pre-order from Logitech. :)

The “new” iPad is actually my first iPad since iPod Video years ago. I have skipped many iteration of Apple hardwares (iPhones, iPod Touchs & iPads) and when I heard about the high resolution Retina display I had to get my hand on one.

Am a concept artist by trade and I find a tablet like iPad support lots of great sketch/art apps. I usually take my iPad on the bus and do sketches and lots of commuter look over and ask what I do for living and saw my artistic rendition and they say the iPad is such a versatile tool for artist on the go.

Not to mention about the Retina display support past 1080p resolution and I can take my purchased 1080p .mp4 files from iTune on the go as well! Plus AnyPlayerHD which is a great app that able to run native 720p HD .mkv files and support .srt subs too. Having library of 720p .mkv files on hand with me when I am on flight, bus ride or train ride to long distant destination to cut down my down time when I need visual entertainment from high quality display.

Indeed iPad may not be a great or speedy hardware like the desktop cousin (PC), but it really alleviate lots of my down time when I am away from my PC while I am gaming. Which mean when I need game faqs (Frequently Ask Questions) in an instant I can turn on my iPad and check it while I game. As well checking my email on the fly when ever I can at home with fast and reliable wifi connection from CISCO E4200 router.

As I get older I like the convenient having a compact hardware that is reliable which a desktop PC or laptop does. All in all it really boils down to what you use with the iPad in the long run and pursue the convenient having a superb “digital secretary” to help you in your daily need. We are living in a post-PC era and tablet PC can or will be our future convenient if we are willing to give it a shot to make living/lifestyle easy and great!

    • Hello Joe- We have submitted your email to customer care and will be getting back to you within 72 hours. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you!

  • Picked one up at the store last night, showing it off to fellow iPad owners at the office. Think I sold two of them on it already!

There is one nice feature I stumbled across: the keyboard cover fits like a glove directly on the iPad, as designed, but it can also fit OVER an existing smart cover. This is handy for carrying the iPad around (to and from the office), and still using it without the new keyboard when that makes sense and still having a cover for it. It’s good to know, because you definitely do not want to try to use the keyboard cover and then just fold it off and write with a stylus, for example. It does not just wrap around the back and stay there; you really want this when you’re planning to use the keyboard whenever you’re using the iPad.

It’s not as slick having the smart cover in this “sandwich mode” (keyboard cover, smart cover, iPad). It doesn’t stay magnetically closed (the smart cover turns off the iPad and stays magnetically as an iPad cover, but the keyboard doesn’t then magnetically grib the smart cover). And the keyboard cover is then just slightly off square on the fit. But it does fit the bill, for me, for trying to transport my iPad, my keyboard, and my cover from one location to another, where I then choose which “mode” my iPad best works (walking around with the tablet and cover, or in a conference room typing away). I wouldn’t always want to configure it this way, but it’s a nice option when needed.

  • Hi Carl. Sounds like you got it early from Best Buy and is awesome passing a personal insight on the compatibility with the Apple Smart Cover sandwich along with the Ultrathin Keyboard Cover with the iPad usage. Kudos to you and can’t wait when my pre-order shows up. :)

  • Hi, im from London, UK. I preordered the ultrathin keyoard cover on the first day after it was announced; 20/04/2012 and my order status is still “order submitted” having read a few of the feeds on here, i should have recieved confirmation of shipment by today, 1st May but am still yet to hear any development of my order. Thought the point of preordering is to be one of the first to recieve the product?

    Thanks!

    • Hi Louis- We are sorry to hear that you have not received your Ultrathin Keyboard Cover yet. What is your order number? We have sent this information along to our customer service team and you should be hearing back within 72 hours.

    • Hello Louis, Wanted to inform you the Ultrathin keyboard cover has officially been shipped, thank you very much for you patience. Please don’t hesitate to message us if you have any further questions.

  • Picked up the keyboard at BestBuy. It looks great, slim and the keyboard has a great feel. My only concern is not being able to dock the iPad in the keyboard with a thin cover on the back of my iPad. I worry not having a back cover will end up scratching or denting the iPad back. Any suggestions?

    • Hi Scott- Are you able to dock the iPad with the thin cover on the back? We don’t want your iPad to get scratched or dented either!

  • Is there any plan on releasing this in Canada soon? I cannot seem to find a site that has it available, and would love to get one sooner rather than later…

    • Hi Brad- Please keep checking back with the Logitech site to see! We are still shipping pre-ordered keyboards in America. Thanks for your comment!

  • Hi again,

I’ve discovered the Logitech Canada site and have found the Ultrathin Keyboard Cover. What is strange, however, is that model #920-004013 is available for purchase now for $98.26 and model #920-004014 is on pre-order for $99.99.

What is the difference between these two models? It is worth waiting and paying the extra $1.73?

    Thanks for your help!

    Brad

  • Hi. I have pre-ordered this product and am wondering what the difference is between “ordering” and “pre-ordering”? Since others seem to have already received their ultrathins, and I’ve heard of others (on the iPad Forum) purchasing theirs in stores, why are we pre-ordering something that has obviously already been released?

    My order number is 13815917423.

    Thanks.

    • Hi Doug, we’re happy to look into this for you. The Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover has shipped in most instances, and as of a couple of days ago, also arrived in stores. We’ll look into your order and will be in touch. Thanks for your patience!

  • Hi.
I have pre-ordered ultrathin kb cover, and i have not received an email confirming shipment.
I sent an email to customer care(sales_support@logitech.com) for asking check the status my order.
and while you said it has officially shipped in most instances, i got a reply from customer service saying that..
“The Ultrathin Keyboard Cover is currently on pre-order and
the estimate ship date is showing May 25th. However there are several orders to fill and may not ship until a few days after that date. I do apologize for the delay.”

I ordered on April 24th and it will be shipped on May 25th?
Persons made pre-order should wait for a month since other people instantly purchasing theirs in stores?
I have to wait 3 weeks for the shipment of pre-order even though it will take 7 business days for shipment if I make order now?
    Come on, kid me not.

I can’t believe that i have to wait till the end of this month for the shipment.
my order number is 13747575123. please check again the estimate ship date.

    • Hi Jay, Apologies for the inconvenience. We’re happy to look into this for you. We have submitted your order information to our customer care team and they will get back to you shortly with an update. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

  • Thanks. I’m not impatient about it, just curious as to why it is still preorder when the product is in stores. Thanks for your help! :)

  • I came to know Logitech made an agreement with BestBuy not to ship the orders for ultrathin keyboard till May 25th.
Would you please explain the meaning of “pre-order”? Thanks.

  • I purchased the Logitech ultrathin iPad keyboard cover and paired it successfully to my ipad2. I powered down both my iPad and the keyboard a few days later while flying. Now I cannot get the Logitech keyboard cover to work with my iPad. It keeps trying to pair, but does not. I re-charged the keyboard. The Bluetooth feature is turned on. I like the keyboard cover but if I cannot get it paired I will have to return it. Any words of wisdom?

    • Hi Martha, sorry that you are having trouble pairing the keyboard. Have you opened a customer support case yet? If so, what is your case number? If not, we recommend doing so at http://support.logitech.com. Please include the issue you have having and the keyboard model. Feel free to respond with your case number and we will forward your information over to customer care for you. Thanks!

  • Can you please check the status of my order, number 12435429242? Your website does not really show the status of an order. Thank you.

    Alex

    • Hi Alex, We have passed your information along to customer care and you should be hearing from them shortly with the status of your order. Thanks!
