Interview with Summe Farooqi of Rusty Hearts

I recently got the opportunity to chat with Summe Farooqi, community manager for Rusty Hearts, and ask him a few questions about the game. Check out the whole discussion below.

Could you give us a brief description of Rusty Hearts and your role?
I’m Summee Farooqi, and I’m the community manager for Rusty Hearts. Generally, I work closely with both players and our production team to help shape the game and relay information between the two. I’m also the lead content manager for the official Rusty Hearts website at http://rustyhearts.perfectworld.com.

How is Rusty Hearts different than other MMOs?
Rusty Hearts takes everything you know about MMOs and wraps it up in an extremely fun and addictive beat em’ up third person brawler. Gamers familiar with Castlevania or even Castle Crashers will appreciate its simplicity as well as its robust gameplay. While anyone can jump in and enjoy the game immediately, seasoned MMO fans will appreciate its crafting, leveling and PVP systems. There’s really something for everyone.

Rusty Hearts is also an extremely accessible game. I mentioned that anyone can jump in and play immediately and that’s no more apparent than handing a gamepad to someone and seeing them play the game like they’ve been playing it all their life. The gamepad oriented controls blur the line between console and PC gaming and provides players with an immersive arcade style beat em’ up experience.

The game is very action oriented. Does it work well with a Gamepad?
Rusty Hearts was designed from the ground up to be played with a gamepad. While the game supports keyboard controls, the game shines when you grab a high-quality gamepad and gain complete control. Movement, camera control and attacks all feel the way you would imagine them. Gamepads are also perfect for third person action games and almost everyone in our studio plays Rusty Hearts with a Logitech® Wireless Gamepad F710.

Are there any major updates coming that we should keep an eye out for?
Rusty Hearts recently received one of its largest updates with the Requiem update on Feb. 14. This new content featured four new dungeons, a new game mode featuring dynamic raids, a slew of new enemies and bosses and much more. We are working on a new premium character and eight player dungeon raids that will be available very soon. We’re extremely excited about this addition to Rusty Hearts and we know our players are as well.

How does the ladder system work?
We recently introduced a robust ladder management tool that lets us capture every dungeon run in Rusty Hearts, from solo runs to four player parties, and publish them for everyone to see. The ladder captures each player’s best dungeon run time and compares it with the best times of other players. Additionally, the ladder system incorporates weekly and daily seasons to give players micro-challenges to beat dungeons with the fastest times and highest rank. The top season players are rewarded with epic prizes ranging from costumes to double EXP scrolls. This new system not only increases the competitive nature of dungeon runs, but it also breathes new life and enjoyment in to previously completed dungeons.
