From tablets to e-readers, media devices are all the rage and this week you’ve got two new ones to choose from. Amazon’s Kindle Fire was released Tuesday, and is joined today by the Barnes & Noble NOOK Tablet™. Along with the iPad® 2, these devices will top the wish list of many holiday shoppers – will they be on yours?
Designed for media consumption, the highly anticipated Kindle Fire offers lots of entertainment options. It’s backed by Amazon’s impressive library of books, magazines, movies, TV shows, and games and uses Amazon’s Silk browser as a fast and easy way to surf the Web. Today’s entrant, the NOOK Tablet, boasts one of the most advanced touchscreens in the business, offers access to more than 2.5 million books and supports apps, the Web and e-mail.
And yet, the iPad 2 still reigns as the most widely used tablet. Because it’s so easy to use and offers such wide functionality – people can browse the Web, take pictures and video, manage their media libraries, and access productivity tools – we believe the iPad 2 will continue to win hearts. Only time will tell if products from competitors like Amazon and Barnes & Noble will become icons of popular technology and culture.
One thing is for sure: priced within reach of most consumers, the introduction of the Kindle Fire and NOOK Tablet will send the already hot market for media devices through the roof this holiday season.
