Living Room, Meet the New Logitech TV Cam for Skype

Hi, my name is Joerg Tewes and I’m the Vice President and General Manager of Logitech’s Consumer Video Division. I joined Logitech in 2009 and focus primarily on developing video communication solutions that span every screen you interact with on a daily basis – from the PC and mobile to the tablet and TV – helping you stay in better touch with your friends, family and coworkers.

When we introduced video calling in the living room with the Logitech® TV Cam for Google TV last October, we took a major step toward fulfilling our promise of bringing HD video calling to anyone, anywhere, on any connected screen. Moving closer to making that vision a reality, today we’re excited to announce our new Logitech® TV Cam for Skype™, which lets you make and receive high-definition video calls directly from 2011 Panasonic VIERA Connect™-enabled VIERA® HDTVs that feature Skype.

As we continue to look at the evolution of video calling – specifically its expansion into the home – we welcomed the opportunity to partner with well-respected brands such as Panasonic, a long-time living room leader and innovator, and Skype, which to date has more than 600 million users, to bring the Logitech TV Cam for Skype to life.

The Logitech TV Cam for Skype provides a new way for families to keep in touch, connecting with loved ones from the comfort of their couch in front of the biggest HD screen in the home. With the Logitech TV Cam for Skype, now placing a 720p HD video call is as easy as a standard phone call or text message. All you have to do is turn on your TV and select the Skype video calling app, which comes preloaded on Panasonic 2011 Panasonic VIERA Connect™-enabled VIERA® HDTVs (no software download required).

Logitech TV Cam for Skype will be available in the U.S. this May for $149.99. Check it out and let us know how making a video call from the comfort of your couch changes the way you interact with your friends and family.

  • I checked out the Logitech Web site and didn’t see a specific reference to the “Logitech TV Cam for Skype”, only the “Logitech TV Cam”. I’d like to buy one online at Logitech.com but want to make sure I get the correct item for my Panasonic TV. Any suggestions (model/part number)?

  • Well, never mind…I clicked on the hyperlink in your message and was taken to the site to pre-order the cam. Do you know when (approximately) they will be shipping? Thanks!

  • So will a C910 work with these Panasonic TV’s as well? It’s also Skype certified. Or are they artificially blocked from doing so?
