How I Revue: Picture in Picture Overlay

You will probably want to smite me where I stand for saying this, but I’m not a big sports fan. Maybe it was because of that traumatic moment in my life when I got fire ants in my shorts during soccer warm-ups.

Anyway, since I’m already a blasphemer, I’ll also tell you that out of all the sports played in the Northern Hemisphere, I like baseball the least. So it should come as no surprise that I wasn’t exactly elated about hosting a World Series Event.

Giants score again

However, these loft-goers were elated for me.

During the game, I stuck close to the Revue and helped answer questions about its capabilities. Someone asked if “Posey” was single. I shrugged, hitting the overlay button and began looking up the stats of the catcher. We all laughed when he saw that his real name was Buster. People began to perk up even more as we surfed the web, discovering info about Major League Baseball, all while watching the game.

“Okay, this is pretty cool,” I thought.

With an inquisitive chin stroke, I quickly looked up Tweetchat, a website that posts a real-time feed of the community when they use hashtags on Twitter. The loft party-goers’ eyes were still drifting to the picture-in-picture display of the game.. and we saw people complaining in the #sfgiants room; Texas had scored. It was pretty sweet that we could watch others sharing their frustration about this, and the loft was pretty broken up over it too.

Texas scores

Not only did we find out that Buster Posey was married in 2009, we also found out he is 6”2 and 201 lbs, bats and throws right, and was born March 27th, 1987. Our attention then shifted to the salary of a major league baseball player, and discovered it to be $3,297,828 dollars a year.

I still don’t love baseball, but after toying around with the Revue and making more of an interactive experience of it, I did find myself liking it more and more.

First picture in picture, next the minor leagues!
