Europe’s Travel Ban Triggers Plan B’s Around the Globe – Tell us your back-up plan for a chance to receive $100

The volcano that erupted in Iceland and the European air traffic ban that has followed is affecting businesses and consumers around the globe, and it has taken us by surprise here at Logitech.

Just today Rory Dooley, senior VP and GM for Logitech’s Control Devices business unit, had to implement Plan B when several of his engineering team members were stuck in Switzerland and unable to attend the semi-annual directors meeting in San Jose. Rescheduling the meeting would have been too costly since other engineers from overseas had already made the trip. Instead, Rory moved it to Logitech’s offices in Fremont where he was able to include the European engineers via LifeSize videoconferencing.

Our Logitech webcam and Vid customers were affected too. Vid saw a significant spike in video calls this past Saturday, April 17th, when compared with previous Saturdays – particularly in England and France – showing that more and more people affected by the travel ban are turning to webcams and video calling as their back-up plan.

While some air travel is expected to resume tomorrow, it will likely be restricted for a few days leaving many business and consumer travelers stranded and in need of a Plan B.

Were you affected by the travel ban? If so, we’d love to hear your story and how you used (or planning to use) video calling as your back-up plan. Please share your brief story with us here: http://www.logitech.com/shareyourstory.

The top three submissions chosen by our team will be awarded a $100 American Express Gift Card. Deadline for entries is Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at 11:59 p.m. PDT.
