New: Logitech Wireless Guitar Controller and Wireless Drum Controller for Wii

The Wii platform has proved to be a very strong seller for the Guitar Hero game series, and it’s very exciting to be able to announce you about these two important additions to our music game controller family – both approved with the Official Nintendo Gold Seal.

The Logitech Wireless Guitar Controller for Wii has an enclosed rear compartment for plugging in your Wii Remote controller. The controller is made with the same premium materials and build quality as our Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. We’ve chosen a white body/black pickguard combination for the launch version – which reminds me of the instrument I once saw played by Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden back in the early 80’s.

The Logitech Wireless Drums for Wii use the same quick-assembly design as our Xbox and PS3 drums, and adds a control unit that fits your Wii controller.

Guitar Hero 5 for Wii launched last week, and it seems that Activision (and developer Vicarious Visions) have done another excellent job, as the reviews are confirming. And with Band Hero for Wii launching in November, Logitech’s drum and guitar controllers will get you fully immersed in the rock ‘n roll experience!

    • Hi Dave,

We decided on a scale length (nut to bridge) of 23″, which makes it shorter by 1.25″ to a Les Paul (24 3/4″) and 2.5″ to a strat (25 1/2″). We have quite a bone-yard of prototypes that we tested (I LOVE my job by the way). With a “strat” length neck, we got the best feel (and highest scores) with the green button placed at the 3rd fret (like playing in G on a guitar). However, it looked too weird having buttons so far up the neck, so we shortened the neck by 2 frets and scaled down the body to match – which also improves the weight and balance.

BTW, John Lennon played a Rickenbacker 325 with a 20.75″ scale length, which is similar to a plastic GH WT guitar 🙂

      Cheers, Ruben

  • When will the drums for the wii be availible?? Is there a set release date? Also what will be availibility of 2nd kick pedal? If the 2nd pedal is not availible can I use my guitar hero pedals with this kit for now ?? I want to preorder but need answers to these questions first . Thanks

  • I think Rockband1 will work on it IF you import the songs into RB2. I will be writing a review of the drums soon on Amazon. Its mostly positive. But there are some things I do not like about it.

  • You mentioned to Todd that the drums will be in stores “during November”.
Are the guitars on a similar schedule?

    • Hi Jason,

The guitars will be available at Logitech.com beginning in November, and then in stores by the end of the year.

      Cheers,

      Ruben

  • Is there also a midi output on the drumkit? Or are there other possibilities to use it like a midi drumkit? Are the pads also sensitive for harder and softer playing (is the sound output different)?

    • Hi Simon,

No, I’m afraid the Logitech Drum Kit is tuned for being a game controller on the Wii. It does have pressure-sensitive drum heads, as supported by Guitar Hero WT and GH5, however it is not set up to trigger a midi drum machine nor a PC drum emulator.

      Cheers,
      Ruben

  • I think you should consider selling the kick pedal separately at least from your support site as a part if not a retail product. Also i wish there were a way a hook the two pedals to the drum so they dont slide around everywhere that would be a good value add from Logitech

    • Hi Jason,

Thanks for the feedback — this is something that we’re looking into.

      Cheers,
      Ruben

  • Hello Ruben,

Its nice to see a company is pro-active about slotting in a quality product which has so much demand.

However, I am a little concerned at the price you have set the product in the Australian Market.
$400, and the same product is going for around $240, I would like you to justify this $160 price increase when the exchange rate is no lower than 90US cents.

    Regards,
    Alex Ainsworth

  • It is December first and the drumkit is still not available even online @Logitech…..what is the delay?

  • Tried calling Logitech to get a projected availability date for the UK and they don’t know when it will be available!!!

Can you please help with at least an estimate? I’m not worried about christmas arrival, but I’d like to know if we are talking end Jan or earlier

    Thanks in advance
