Update on Logitech’s Mouse and Keyboard Drivers for Windows 7

For those of you who are using Windows 7 (and it seems plenty of you are…), I wanted to provide an update about our software development for mice and keyboards. In early August, we will release an update to our SetPoint software for mice and keyboards that is officially certified for Windows 7. It will support all versions of Windows 7 and will be available on our Web site.

Until then, you have a couple of options:

  1. You can use the built-in mouse and keyboard drivers in Windows 7
  2. You can use the most recent version of SetPoint (equivalent to beta-level support).

If you go with option one, you’ll get support for the three main mouse buttons, plus back and forward buttons if your mouse has them. For keyboards, you’ll have support for the F1 – F12 keys plus the Volume and Playback controls.

If you want to change the button or key assignments on your mouse or keyboard, or want full support for a mouse or keyboard with extra buttons (i.e. more than five buttons on a mouse or the extra function keys on a keyboard), you’ll need to use our SetPoint software.

We have two versions of SetPoint that work with Windows 7, depending on which mouse or keyboard you have. For all mice and keyboards except the Logitech G9 and G9x Gaming Mice, use SetPoint 4.72. For the Logitech G9 and G9x Gaming Mice, use SetPoint 5.1. Both versions are on our website and can be downloaded here.

When downloading SetPoint, you’ll have to select “Windows Vista” as your operating system if you plan to install SetPoint on a Windows 7 system. This is because Windows 7 uses the same driver architecture for mice and keyboards as Windows Vista. Thus, the current versions of SetPoint for Windows Vista are essentially beta versions of our upcoming drivers for Windows 7.

It’s impossible to test every computer and configuration out there, so it’s important for us to hear what isn’t working. We’d also like to hear what you think of Windows 7, especially the features you find most useful. We’re always on the search for new tricks!

  • How about a beta release of some Windows 7 software for the QuickCam 9000 Pro? The camera works in Windows 7, but you don’t get the features of the QuickCam software, which actually account a lot for the camera’s use cases.

  • All well and good but what about your webcams, none of which work under Windows 7 (any version) and All you get from your technical support is a scripted response of ‘We dont support beta operating systems’

  • I am using SetPoint 4.72 under Win 7 RC 64 Bit. This is probably not the 1st setpoint ver I have tried. Sound keys worked prior to setpoint installation, don’t work subsequent to installion, don’t work after uninstallation. Reinstalling Setpoint results in Proper operation until rebooting then not working again. Looks like I may have to reinstall windows to fix!!

  • James (and anyone else wanting to use a Logitech camera in Win7):

    I just had to “upgrade” from XP x64 Edition to Windows 7 Release Candidate because I wanted an iPhone but the iTunes synchronization won’t work under XP x64, but WILL work under Win7 x64.

    ANYWAY, I already had the Logitech 9000 because it has the x64 drivers under XP. I was surprised when Windows7 simply loaded drivers it already had for my 9000. It’s working fine.

    BTW – one of the best webcams I have ever used. Really like the auto-focus feature.

    I would have a bit more control over every detail of the camera *IF* I could install the full Logitech software package in Windows7, but it’s doing everything I need without it.

  • Hey, i tried option 1 with my G19 and G9. windows 7 found the drivers, but volume controls and pause/play buttons still doesnt work. it didnt work with setpoint either

  • Thanks for letting us know; I had a very bad experience with Quickcam drivers, but I believe G15 beta support from the Vista package is working decently.

    As far as Quickcam Pro for Notebooks:

    Installing the Quickcam software borked my Win7/64 install, and I think it has something to do with trying to pop up the “register this software” window before LoginUI.exe gets to execute. I had to manually kill the folder in safe mode to get my computer to be able to boot at all.

    I’m running Windows 7 RC 64-bit. Setpoint 4.72_x64 unpacks, makes it to Step 4, then bails on “Installing Critical Components”. I’m of course installing it as Administrator. Any kind of an installation log that you’d like me to send to you?

  • I am having the same problem as James on this version. I did have a version that worked under the Beta but I can’t 4.72 to work under the RC

  • Ditto, our whole business will be moving over to windows 7 asap on launch, and if we can’t get some decent logitech drivers by then we’ll be moving away from logitech for keyboards and mice to boot. Is anyone at logitech actively testing your existing products on 7RC – let’s face it, the OS is as complete as any RC ever has been, so it’s the right platform to get it working on before you lose some of your customer base. My Microsoft bluetooth kb and mouse on my desk work perfectly with 7RC, but my V470 has been resigned to the depths of my laptop bag until there is a solution, which I am v. disappointed about.

  • I’ve always been a big fan of Logitech mice and have bought many over the years for myself and companies I have worked for.
    I have a V470 now and just upgraded to Windows 7 RC and I find the WHEEL does NOT work and there is neither a comment from Logitech nor any solution. So I am using an older Logitech usb (VX Rev) for the moment but I want Bluetooth.

    I’m very disappointed in Logitech. Why aren’t all Win 7 drivers ready now?? Many many upset Logitech customers around the world. The Microsoft equivalent mouse (5000) has a supported by Windows 7 logo and seems to have better features than my V470 (longer battery life etc).

    So it looks like I will be buying Microsoft mice in future!

  • SetPoint 5.10 doesn’t detect my G9 mouse on Windows 7 RC. Says something to the effect of “Nothing detected.” when I load up SetPoint.

  • @Brian, my copy of Windows 7 recognised and installed my webcam (Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro) using its builtin drivers, then after a reboot installed Logitech’s software, which seems to be working fine. Likewise SetPoint 4.72 works fine.

  • For those of you who can’t get SetPoint to run; just right click the executable, and select Properties>Compatibility and choose Vista SP2 compatibility.

    My MX1100 works great with these for W7 (I like the rotating app. switcher in W7 with the middle button), and my G15 works great except it loses some of its settings on return from sleep – which I can live with until Aug.

  • Hi Andy, here are some free tips for you regarding your WIndows 7 Setpoint software, things that I really, really hope will come true:
    – For keyboards: When pressing a keyboard function key (FN) or dedicated key on the keyboard), it should behave exactly like when pressing WIN + Number Key shortcut in Windows 7. Let’s take Calculator as example. Right now, when pressing the calculator button (or FN+Calculator), a new instance opens every time. That is just totally counter productive and makes no sense at all. Insted, if calculator is open, it should be brought into focus, if it’s not open it should open. If it’s already in focus, it should minimize. Just like when clicking on the icon in the Windows 7 Taskbar. The same goes for the browser, email, media etc. buttons. Almost never would I like to launch a new browser instance, because there are tabbed windows in all modern browser. It would make so much more sense if it behaved like the Taskbar.
    – Regarding the Search function key (or search button on MX Revolution): Without Setpoint drivers, the behaviour is perfect in Win 7. It opens the Windows search window, unless the focus is in an internet browser, then focus is shifted to the search bar on the right hand side of the address bar. When installing Setpoint, the behaviour is destroyed, and there is only a silly option to launch a browser instance and go to a search page. I have difficulty believing that anyone would find that useful. At the very least, there should be an option to make the default WIndows 7 behaviour to come back. Or it should be easily programmable so that you launch the LIbraries folder (or Documents Library) and put focus in the search box, that would make even more sense, because that’s something I need at work every day several times per hour, and I suspect a lot of other business users would need that as well.
    – Also, Setpoint should be made as lightweight as possible.

  • Running Setpoint 4.72.40; Windows 7 64-bit;

    Pressing the search button on the mouse opens IE-64 bit version. Any way to make it open the 32-bit version?

  • I am running W7 RC build 7100 and using a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard and MX600 mouse with Setpoint 4.72.40. Most everything seems to be working fine, but the big problem is that the OS doesn’t seem to recognize the presence of the Illimunated Keyboard in a timely way so that one cannot use it at boot to enter the BIOS screens to make setup adjustments to the PC. If I use the stock Dell USB wired keyboard that came from the factory with W7, there is no problem entering the BIOS at the boot splash screen. I hope your new W7 drivers will fix this problem.

  • mx510 mouse, using setpoint 4.72.
    middle click stops working sometimes. have to manually set it again in setpoint.
    when switching users, sometimes mouse sensitivity and accelleration are messed up. have to open setpoint and apply it again.
    btw, change the default installation language to english.
    overall, mouse feel in games is somehow not the same as in vista. maybe it’s related to inconstant sensitivity, mentioned above.

  • Cannot get the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard to work with Windows 7 RC. Installed SetPoint 4.7.2. Logitech cordless mouse works fine. Any suggestions welcome or I will have to return the keyboard…

  • How about releasing some S5500 webcam beta drivers for Windows 7 x64 so we can actually test them before Windows 7 hits the shelves? It was this kinds of delay by companies to have drivers ready that killed Vista.

  • Win7 RC, build 7100.

    First up, Win7 itself seems to have an issue with USB mouse/keyboard from time to time, where they work during BIOS and initial boot, then at login prompt neither works. This isn’t Logitech hardware or driver issue, AFAICS. Unplug+replug avails not, nor does reboot. Unplug+replug in /different USB ports/ resolves it. Also, nobody should be surprised when Microsoft mice and keyboards are well-supported under Win7 RC – the drivers and the OS itself are, after all, coming from the same folks…

    Also, to the guy encountering keyboard problems at BIOS: you need to understand that BIOS is BIOS, and when you’re at BIOS screens during the early stages of booting a PC there is NO OS loaded – NO driver will EVER change keyboard behavior before the OS itself has been loaded… Any problems at that point are strictly at the hardware level, the only way you can possibly affect this is to try flashing an updated BIOS. (which IMHO is unlikely to fix your problem)

    Logitech-specific issue with Setpoint and MarbleMouse:

    Universal Scroll with Setpoint 4.72.40 32-bit works, but speed control does NOT – regardless of speed setting it scrolls at a painfully slow rate. I’ve grown used to the smooth swift scrolling (H and V) provided under Ubuntu (search ‘marblemouse’ at help.ubuntu.com) and the speed under Win7 with Setpoint is absurd – a compete rotation of the trackball scrolls by about 15 lines in browser and documents and what-not.

    It would be wonderful if Setpoint could provide a scroll-only-while-button-held-down action like that under Ubuntu, but even the click-on/click-off Universal Scroll would be acceptable if only it scrolled at a reasonable speed.

    Also, the inability to emulate a middle-mouse or wheel-button click is frustrating as hell. AFAIK this is NOT a Win7-specific issue, but a basic lack of capability in SetPoint itself.

    Apart from the desire to emulate a wheel on the MarbleMouse, there is NO need to run SetPoint – everything else about the device works as expected under Win7.

  • I have tried to connect a VX Nano mouse, but Windows 7 RC can’t find a driver to the USB Reciever?! So my new mouse is useless under Windows 7.. Hope RTM or the new setpoint version will have a driver..

  • Again, the incompatible OS issue is corrected by right-clicking the G15 driver executable, and choosing Vista SP2 compatibility mode. My G15 works fine, except after resuming from sleep.

  • While I’m only running the lowest-cost wireless keyboard/mouse combo here I am nearing MID-August and having to live with jerky action with the mouse when scrolling. This was not a problem with XP, but there’s no way I’m going back there simply for the mouse.

    If SetPoint 4.72 is the answer, well….let’s just say when I went with the retail on Win 7 I had planned to upgrade as well as buy a WebCam. I will most definitely rethink Logitech at that point. Hate to say it, but the M$ wireless products are looking better every time I scroll.

  • The vista 64 bit driver will not install on Windows 7 Ultimate RTM, it reports an unsupported OS.

  • With Vista, I had intermittent issues with my Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 501. On a cold-boot – the BIOS would recognize the keyboard, the Windows start-up screen would launch, Windows would detect the keyboard & mouse, and then hang. In every case, turning the computer off and on again would resolve the issue and let Vista boot.

    Last night, I upgraded to Windows 7. With the keyboard and mouse plugged in to the PS2 ports, Windows would hang on start-up every time. With just the keyboard plugged in to the PS2 port, Windows would hang. With the keyboard and mouse plugged in to a USB port, Windows would hang.

    I managed to work around the problem by unplugging the Logitech keyboard and mouse and plugging in an old Dell wired keyboard. Once Windows had started, I then plugged the Logitech in to a USB port; Windows detected the new hardware and installed new drivers. I restarted with the Logitech still plugged in, and it seemed to work. I then shut down, removed the wired keyboard, left the Logitech connected to the USB port, and it still seems to work.

    I have yet to try a cold boot, but I’m hoping that this was an issue with the Vista drivers, and that the new drivers will work.

  • This applies to the Logitech G15 Keyboards (V1.0)…

    The Logitech 3.02 Software for Windows Vista x64 DOES work for Windows 7 RTM x64 and all of the controls of the keyboard work just fine.

    Prior to installation you must right click on the file and choose properties. Go to the Compatibility tab and change the OS to Windows Vista. Also check the “Run as Administrator” check at the bottom. Apply and Ok the settings. Once you’ve done this, double-click on it and install the software. After installation you should have full controll of the volume and the Stop/Start buttons now (which didn’t work before).

    The only side effect I have had is when you physically disconnect the keyboard and move it to another USB port. If you do this, at least in my experience, the software looses track of the proper mapping and the volume control no longer work from that point on…this still applys even if you plug it back into the original USB port you started with after you have moved it…so make sure you keep track of which USB port you use for the keyboard…this may be fixed in a later revision of the software (I hope)….hope this helps everyone that has had this now legendary problem.

Is there any official word on whether the officially certified SetPoint software is actually coming out “in early August”?

  • Using 4.80 with Win 7-7100, I notice that the mouse’s Smart Move doesn’t work for many of the OS’s default buttons like when you extract a zip, other install stuff, and some ‘Are You Sure …?’ dialogs.

  • Being a big fan of Logitech, I have a Harmony remote, S510 keyboard, USB cordless mouse, and Logitech speakers.

    Is there ever going to be any Linux drivers?

  • There may be a Setpoint 4.80 version but the Bluetooth does not work on Windows 7 so all us Di Novo Users will just have to wait.

    I am off to get some other product that is more in line with the Windows concept of upward compatability !!

  • How about the LCD driver for g15 keyboard……i sure can use some info about this out….didnt manage to find it anywhere on your site and the driver for vista is cleary incompatiple with seven RC, he didnt even wanted to install….

    so 1 question: where are you gonna release a the driver for Seven for the lcd display on the g15 keyboard

      I’m with Logitech’s webcam group, and wanted to let you know that you need to download Logitech webcam software V1.0. You have two options:

      1. Check the website for updates: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/435/4224&cl=us,en?osid=1 and look for Logitech webcam software V1.0

      2. Manually check for updates. Once the software is open, right click on the webcam icon in the bottom right tray. Select check for updates and 1.0 should be provided.

  • I have installed the new version (4.80) and my mouse (VX Revolution) stop working. Please inform what to do.

  • My cordless iTouch keyboard’s media keys do not work in windows 7. I tried downloading and installing setpoint and it doesn’t even recognize the keyboard as being able to be set with the software. It worked great in Windows XP.

    Also, my quickcam communicate does not work at all either.

    Will either of my two Logitech devices be able to work with Windows 7 or have you totally dropped support for these products?

    I am a software developer and need windows 7 on this machine to stay current – I would appreciate Logitech allowing these “legacy” devices to continue working.

    If it is officially certified, why is there no Windows 7 option for the MX Revolution, MX 5500, etc…? It seems like there are many people who are having issues with the SetPoint 4.8 software, and the fact that Logitech hasn’t made a Windows 7 option under the operating system seems to me that it’s not fully compatible yet. We’ve been told August, then September, then October for Windows 7 drivers…

    I have a 5500 set and the full version of Windows 7 (NOT THE beta) the full version for Partners…

    I am having problems with trying to connect an Avalon Bt Bluetooth headset…made by Bazoo.

    Using SETPOINT 4.8 and 5500 keyboard and mouse are both working fine…

    The headset pairs fine and I can set its pin, BUT then Windows 7 says “Installing Driver” and then fails……no driver provided with the new headset but I would not expect one for a Bluetooth headset….

    So why will it not work with the 5500 bluetooth ????

    The headset works perfectly with my mobile phone….so its not that….

    Any help much appreciated … 🙂

      This seems like it’s an issue with the BT headset and W7. You may want to try contacting Microsoft or the headset’s manufacturer for further assistance.

    Sorry but it IS a Logitech problem….

    I own a Computer shop which is useful for these problems lol….

    I brought home a brand new standard Mini Bluetooth USB hub and the Headset connected and paired perfectly with no driver issue…

    So…NOT a Wndows 7 issue and NOT a headset issue….

    Its a Logitech Bluetooth issue…..which Logitech NEEDS to resolve before Windows 7 is released on the 22/10/09…I suggest…. as Setpoint 4.8 does NOT help…. 🙁

  • I have win7 with a g15 keyb, g9 mouse and g25 wheel. The only thing that works is the g15 keyboard. The drivers for the mouse and wheel are installed, windows can see the hardware but in both ‘setpoint’ and ‘profiler’ i get an error “did not detect any supported device”. So, I am not able to take advantage of any of the features of the hardware i have paid… the official launch is less than 2 weeks, when will there be usable drivers & software ?

    • Hi Makis,

      For Windows 7 compatibility you’ll want to download software version 3.03 or later for the G15 gaming keyboard, software version 5.08 or later for the G25 racing wheel and SetPoint software version 5.2 or later for the G9 gaming mouse. If you’ve installed the appropriate software and the products are not detected, I recommend that you contact support (www.logitech/support) for further assistance.

  • Using logitech G5 Mouse and keystroke assignments to several of its buttons for use in world of warcraft as a “select a program” in Setpoint 4.8.
    Key assignments work fine unless I run the exe (world of warcraft retail) as administrator.
    It seems a bit odd that.

  • Andy, way is it that setpoint function keys only open web links in IE 64 (bit) on win 7? And is there a way to get it to open in IE 32 (bit) ver. Illuminated Keyboard and MX Performance mouse running SetPoint ver. 4.80 thank you Barryd

    • Hi Barryd,

      The way to open a web link in a new tab is to assign “Generic Button 3” to whichever mouse button you want to use for opening a web link. Then, if you click on a link with that button, it should open in a new tab. This should work regardless of whether you are running a 32 or 64 bit OS or application.

  • I have installed the new version (4.80) and my mouse (VX Revolution) stop working in Windows 7. I seems I am not only one with this problem. At this time I use SetPoint 3.72, but it don’t work correctly too (missing additional options for VX Revolution mouse – there are only 2 tools with Help Center and Web Updates). I trying to install 3 other versions, but with same result.
    Please inform us when you will have correctly working version of SetPoint for Windows 7 finaly.

  • I have a brand new cordless wave laser desktop that was just sent to me as a replacement. I am running Windows 7 64bit. The VC8 libraries did not install correctly every time I have tried installing setpoint 4.80. I have an Asrock motherboard with AMD 790fv and 2 radeon 4870 1gb with OCZ ram and an OCZ power supply.

  • Well what do you know, its the official Windows 7 release date and still no update from Logitech. Thanks for the BS for the last 3 mo. while we all waited for SetPoint for Win7 that “will be available by the official Win7 Release date”.

    You hardware can’t make up for your software forever……

  • My Brother has a dinovo Kyeboard wirh the mx1000.
    I use it becouse my keyboard is brocken up.
    I really like it but im Running Linux and the lcd does not work with it. Are there any drivers to fix this?
    I would be happy about it (and would buy the di novo as new kyebaord)

      Our keyboards are not optimized for Linux so some features may not be fully functional. Unfortunately we do not offer drivers for Linux.

  • I’m afraid i have to agree with him it is total BS. Do companies strive to make things “future proof” by making them so ridiculously complicated and buggy that it needs future thinking to fix it. poor effort very poor. cant even keep upto date with a mouse driver pff

  • Shame on Logitech for lagging behind the industry which has provided driver support for Win7 even before the software was released.

    Logitech product manahgers must have been sleping at the switch as they as they flew 150 miles beyond the launch of Windows 7.

    This is hardly the customer support I have come to expect from Logitecc

    For some reason my Logitech EX100 stopped working correctly with Windows 7. I already installed SetPoint and the problem persists.
    I can’t seem to type anything because the keyboard is activating functions instead of typing.
    At Windows logon for example, when I press the “s” button, it constantly opens functions of suspend or shutdown.

  • I have no less than three Cordless Desktop Pros I don’t want to replace when changing from Win XP to Win 7. Any chance that I can get the functions back on the extra keys and buttons? Play key, speaker control on the keyboard, thumb and middle button assignments on the mouse etcetera?

  • When can we expect the setpoint update for Windows 7? It should have already been availeble for a month. I don’t think it is to much of an efford to ajust a couple of simple drivers, is it? If I had the the I would do it myself. Right boys, wake up and step on it.

  • So basically the Logitech corporate position is everyone that has not bought new eg a keyboard in the last two years can get lost we are not interested in providing drivers for older product..

    So the beneficiary will be Microsoft as they say once you have been caught once you dont ever buy again so goodbye anything branded logitech

  • I have a problem with my laser mouse where it freezes for 1 or more seconds then starts working again. I have downloaded the latest set point and it does not resolve the problem. A fix for this would be wonderful.

  • I have a veteran Logitech M-BA47 mouse which has outlived 3 computers.
    It is fantastically comfortable to use and still works perfectly, so I don’t want to have to buy another one.Unfortunately it won’t work properly on either Windows 7 or Linux.
    Why won’t Logitech provide a suitable driver? Surely it’s not difficult to make the handful of buttons do what the user wants – an afternoon’s work for a competent programmer??
    If I am forced to buy a replacement mouse it most certainly won’t be a Logitech one.

  • Just upgraded my new pc from Vista Home Premium to Win7 Home Premium. Got a new Logitech Classic 200 keyboard to go with it. My problem is that after boot up, for about an hour, the kb works fine. Then some keys stop working. Typically it is the numlock key, the o, the down arrow, and I suppose some others I have not tried. Other keys continue to work. I have tried three different usb slots, with the same result. I also tried a usb to ps2 plug but the kb was not even recognized. Each time I have to reboot, the kb works for a while, and then I get the same problem.

    Any insight to what this problem is and how to fix it will br greatly appreciated.

  • I also have the veteran Logitech M-BA47 mouse (Dell branded) since 2002.I wish they have them in stock somewhere.So comfortable in my palm.Cannot find it anywhere or something similar ,why they stopped making them?

  • Logitech support just notified me that my Bluetooth V270 mouse is not compatible with Win7. Wow. Just Wow. My only issue is that the scroll wheel doesn’t work. Latest beta SetPoint doesn’t even recognize the mouse as being installed in spite of it working otherwise. It’s a MOUSE for crying out loud. And the V270 only has the normal two buttons!

  • I have 3 combo keyboard & mice. 2 of them are the MX3000 and the 3rd is an MX3200. They are laser and worked fine on windows XP. I now have windows 7 pro with an i7 processor. When will I be able to get drivers for these.
    I would appreciate a response.

  • Its the end of november and SetPoint 4.80 still doesnt install correctly! When were you thinking of providing proper drivers for Win 7?????
