Logitech’s New Comfort Lapdesk

Hi, I’m Simone Chevalley and I’ve been with Logitech for almost 3 years as Global Product Marketing Manager within the Notebook Accessories team in Switzerland, I am a huge fan of cinema, I love to travel (been around quite a lot), I try to do some outdoor sports like running or playing tennis when it’s not too cold (which is rarely the case in Switzerland), and otherwise I ski (second thing you learn after walking around here).

Do you remember how liberated you felt when you got rid of your old desktop PC and switched over to your first laptop/notebook PC? Well, I sure do!

While I like working from home from time to time, I hate being stuck in one place – at the desk. Once I got a laptop, I started using it all around my home. Today, I mainly use it on my couch because it allows me to spend some time with other members of the household and at the same time get things done. I like the flexibility. I have to admit I also like to do my online billings on my couch while watching TV (it makes it less boring…).

While I appreciate being able to use my notebook anywhere in the home, last year I began to notice posture discomfort from having an unbalanced notebook on my legs. I realized that I couldn’t sit in as many positions as I’d like and I hated how hot the computer felt on my lap.

The Logitech Comfort Lapdesk is THE answer! I developed this product to protect the body from laptop heat and to provide additional posture comfort (thanks to its design and wide base, which provides stability when on your lap). The Comfort Lapdesk holds the notebook still in almost any position so you can enjoy even more flexibility of movement. It also raises the notebook screen closer to your eye-level for more comfort.

I am personally very sensitive to details of design in my home, so I wanted this product to fit any home environment, not just mine… (LOL). I think it’s very important to people nowadays to be surrounded by products that fit their lifestyle so I chose a sleek, attractive design in hopes of achieving that goal.

The only problem? I’ve found that once I started using it, I was truly addicted! Hopefully you’ll love the Logitech Comfort Lapdesk as much as I do!

  • Reviewing some of our favorite Logitech products right now…

This one looks really cool, like something I’d love to try out! My husband is always complaining about the heat from his laptop and I think this would suit his needs much better than his old drafting board. haha

  • I can’t wait for this. I have an HP laptop and it gets really hot.

When do we expect this to be available to buy??

  • Hi Jay,
    Thanks for the info.
Amazon Canada doesn’t have the LapDesk for sale; will the LapDesk be available on the Logitech online store in Canada any time soon?

    -Jay

  • I”m frustrated – I’d like to buy a Comfort Lapdesk but want to see one in a shop 1st since they seem quite expensive. There are lots of email traders but I can’t find any shops stocking them in Adelaide, Sth Australia. Nor can I find a Logitech site other than this one to ask.

I hope Logitech aren’t losing their marketting skills as I love their products!

  • It took me weeks, but I finally found a lapdesk in Adelaide (Sth Australia) this morning.
We are in a heatwave (43C today) so the 1st thing I appreciate is that it is actually stopping the laptop heat getting to me! The ‘stacker table’ I was using was quite hot.

It also is smart looking, classy, and comfortable on my legs – I use my 17″ laptop on my recliner mostly, being retired. I appreciate it’s extra width over alternatives too.
It did cost me $80AU but after 4 hours use I’m feeling it was worth it to me.

It is good, and perhaps rare, to find an item which actually lives up to it’s advertising.
Well done Logitech. (I was frustrated trying to find one though).

  • I think it is really awful of you to get everyone excited about the lap desk and then not have it available. I have been looking for something like this for months, now you tantalize us with it but no information anywhere on when it might actually be available. Shame on you.

    • Hi Jean,

I’m very sorry for the inconvenience. We launched this product in Europe first, but it is scheduled to be available in the U.S. beginning March 23.

      All the best, Simone

  • Simone, this looks like a terrific product. I just purchased a MacBook Pro 15″ and I am wondering if it will fit. What are the surface dimensions? Thanks.

    • Hi Bob,

      The product dimensions (L x W x H) are 18.03 x 11.26 x 2.87 inches — so yes, it will fit your MacBook Pro.

      -Simone

  • Thank you, Simone. I clicked on the “notify me” button for updates. Looks like you did a terrific job designing product. Question… Will the smooth surface cause any slipping problems with my MacBook Pro?

BTW: Folks seem to be all over Logitech regarding the price for this and some of the laptop stands as well. I am also in marketing and I understand that logitech is catering to a design sensitive market segment. Being a Mac user qualifies me, that’s for sure. lol The pricing seems reasonable to me, but I’m not the type to use a MacDonalds tray.

How bad am I? I am one of the relative few who purchased a 20th Anniversary Mac back in 2007 for $6,000. That machine was all about design and ergonomics. I used it for 10 years before selling it to a gentleman in Italy. C’est la vie…

    Thanks Simone!

    • Hi Bob,

We’ve done some testing the MacBook Pro and it seems that they stay put up to a 30-degree tilt. You might have trouble if you want to tilt the lapdesk any further than that since the MacBook Pro doesn’t have any grip on the bottom (like most laptops). That said, to date, we have not had any negative feedback regarding MacBook Pros slippling.

      Hope that helps, Simone

  • I’ve been looking all around for these. Do you have any idea when they will be available in the US? I thought it was supposed to be February :\.

    • Hi Jack,

Sorry for the confusion. I posted an update above on Feb. 16. The lapdesk is expected to be available in the U.S. beginning March 23.

      All the best, Kate

    • Hi Raymond,

The lapdesk should be available in Canada in mid-April. Sorry for the delay in getting you an answer.

      -Simone

  • What actual size of this Lapdesk? (Height and Width of the tray)

I am not planing on using with a laptop, but just an Apple Wireless Keyboard and mouse.

    Thanks.

    • Hi Marc,

Here are the dimensions and weight of the lapdesk:
      • Dimensions (L x W x H): 18.03 x 11.26 x 2.87 inches
      • Weight: 2.64 pounds

      Best,
      Simone

  • I just received mine from Amazon. I love the product.
I do not know if it’s an isolated problem, but my Macbook Pro continues to slip down when the lapdesk is tilted (less than 30 degrees).
The surface on my lapdesk is not 100% flat and the MBP tiny feet are not helping with the slipping issue.
It is not a problem when I use my other laptop.

  • Do you have an updated date for release in Canada? Is there somewhere I can find out which vendors will carry it?

    Thanks.

  • April is nearly ending and no sign of the Logitech Comfort Lapdesk product in Canada from dealers such as NCIX, FrontierPC, London Drugs and Future Shop.

I would love to know which dealers will be carrying or has ordered this product so we know where exactly to obtain it in this country.

As for me, I had to unfortunately purchase from Amazon.com and I’m currently in the process of having it shipped to me. A rather expensive option at this point with the exchange rate conversion, shipping fee and tax. I will be blogging about this lack of product availability.

Also, I’m curious to know why it’s easier to have the product available first to Europe and USA and miss the boat for Canada? I know we’re not a big enough market, but being right beside the USA should help a little bit to give us a few stocks of the product along with other Logitech product shipments in the country.

    • Hi all,

I’ve finally tracked down the answer re: distribution in Canada, and I’m sorry to say that it is not a good one. Unfortunately, it is not being carried in Canada, although it’s very helpful to have proof of interest here so that we can continue to make a case for it with our Canadian distributors.

      Apologies, Simone

  • That’s sad news to hear that it’s not reaching Canada despite being a stone’s throw. Good thing my purchase of the product from the Amazon USA site has not gone wasted.

This is not the first time nor will it be the last time that a distributor in Canada has dictated what specifically to order and offer for the Canadian market rather than simply supply what the manufacturer has produced. The result are selected products that are old rather than recent introductions. And they wonder why sales are low.

In any case, hope you find a better distributor in the future to help expand your sales margin for Logitech products.

  • I bought the lapdesk several days ago and I am very happy with it. There is one small annoying problem: I can’t use my Logitech BT laser mouse on the surface (it doesn’t reflect the laser beam). Was this a simple mistake in engineering? Or are there other arguments for using the shiny white surface instead of a matte colored one? Do you plan to sell a kind of adhesive folio to compensate for this drawback?

    Thanks!

    • Hi Ivan,

The Comfort Lapdesk is not designed to be used with a mouse — it\’s intended to be a surface where you can place your laptop when you\’re relaxing on your sofa, on the floor or in bed so you can be more comfortable. For this to be the case, however, your notebook needs to be placed in the center of the lapdesk – otherwise it would be off balance.

      Best, Simone

  • Any way to combine this comfort lapdesk with the cooling pad N100 to make a 1 new product? I love this product, but my still can feel computer heat. I think that a combined product would be a great hit!
